Good evening all at FC (Lock On is gone for me, its FC now) and hope all is well :)

Well, let me tell you a tail of my flight sim escapades recently. I have been flying FS2004 for the last six weeks and it has been really good with all the freeware and payware add ons, I mean the gazzillion amount of it out their due to MSFS modular design.....

BUT........

Nothing comes remotely close to the flight model of Eagle dynamics Su25/25t. I am astounded by the quality of the Su25t flight and you even get a full modeling of weapon delivery in the add on FC

I have spent over £150 on add-on things with MSFS 2004, things like the Alphasim Vampire, PSS Vulcan, Sea Vixen and enhancements of environment, ground and sky, you name it..but NOTHING compares to the Lock on environment, its textures and terrain OR the Su25/25t for a truly wonderful flight experience.

EDs terrain and simulation is way over and above anything out there for people like me who just fly around for fun but appreciate a good flight model/world environment.

I just get goosey (goose bumps to the non Yorkshire folk around here) at the thought of ED making their simulation modular for other third party developers to contribute :)

I mean the ones who like to fight get on with fighting and the ones who like the sensation of simulated flight get the Su25/t AFM to keep them happy.

Now where is that bottle of half drunk wine.

I'm a huge fan of MSFS, and the latest installment is a great addition to the aviation world. But LO:MAC has my heart at the moment. I just love it to bits. You can see there was a huge amount of passion driving ED when they created this game. It just seems obvious to me.

Not saying Microsoft don't give a crap about their sim, but I think they're beginning to feel somewhat compelled to keep releasing new flight simulators. Lock On is definitely something special, though, I noticed that the moment I took a quick flight in an F-15 for the first time.

I've only been playing for a little while, so my opinion will naturally pail in comparison to some of the LO:MAC Veterans. But from a new-comers point of view, it's a seriously great sim.

Yes, i agree. lo-mac could have the best FM in any sim. I had flown MSFS for a while, go t lockon, sond stuck with it. And i totally agree that the Su-25T is excelently modeled. I have not flown it hardly at all till recently and i was just blown away by it's realistic feel.

Makes me wonder what the realistic FM in BS will be like ;)

I've had three installments of the FS line - don't really know why, 'cos I fell out of love with the series with FS2000.. I think it was during takeoff, rough crosswinds resulted in me stacking a wing into the hardtop. It said 'crash' in the top left and paused. 'Pop!' went my immersion.

Lt. Commander Block: Every aerial photo and recon report indicate a defensive arsenal in the D, and perhaps negative C, categories. There's also some anti-aircraft squadrons.

Admiral Benson: I don't have a clue what you're talkin' about, Phil. Not a clue. I have a shell the size of a fist in my head. Pork Chop Hill. The only way I can make this toupee to stay on is by magnetizing the entire upper left quadrant of my skull, so you just go ahead and do what you do.

I've pretty much come to accept that MSFS is lacking on some levels. The first time I actually flew a Cessna 182RG in real life, I discovered how different it was.

But at least the cockpit was the right way around, and I could even take off from the exact airport where I did my first lessons.

I probably didn't explain myself clearly enough to begin with. I would only use MSFS for a civil or commercial prop/jet. I've never used a military jet addon, so it's difficult for me to compare flight models. I use it mainly to brush up on navigation and ILS etc.

The overall "feel" in MSFS, including the latest version, is terrible. This isn't just about the horrible frame rates, but the aircraft all just "feel" wrong. And, after all this time, MSFS STILL can't get the basic functions of a KAS297C right?!!! Its SUCH a simple device, with all kinds of public info available on it, but the thing still doesn't even come close to RL behavior, and it sure as hell doesn't fly the FD in the airplane correctly. Then there is just the general interface, MSFS leaves you feeling totally disconnected from the aircraft which pitches WAY TOO MUCH for a given input. I'll tell ya...no aircraft in a sim has left me with more of a desire for actual force-feedback controls than the Su-25T in Flaming Cliffs. I'm left wishing I had a flaps and gear lever, and that I could actually feel how much pressure I was putting on the wheel brakes. I don't get that same desire in MSFS, because it doesn't feel real enough to care about any of those things. Its more like a "push a button" then hold the stick here, kind of "sim". In the T frog, you actually have to feel the plane and what its doing.

I have to agree but M$FS has been, since FS98, just holster for third party addons whether free or payware.

I do think allot of the addons do feel extremely realistic as long as you don't start pulling hard G's or anything but for general aviation its a great sim especially for helicopters. Although for fixed wing planes it can be a little irritating if you dont know how to make adjustments to the flight model, for example the pitch problem for default aircraft can be adjusted quite easily by reducing the moments of inertia for pitch found in the general tunning section of the aircraft.cfg file for the particular aircraft you want to adjust. But in all honesty the default aircraft are totally crap.. ;)

Yes, MS has it's strong points. like you said, the ILS and such. I also like the realistic ATC in Microsoft. that's prety much the only thing that keeps my immersion in it. The Interactive training missions are nice too, but useless if you already know how to fly.

Just my 2 cents on microsoft FS

Absolutely. I know a Ryanair 737 pilot (who lives nextdoor) who still uses MSFS to simulate a few situations (severe crosswind landings etc). He wouldn't call it "practice" per se rather than a "challenge". But it's a decent program for learning pilots.

Like I said, though. LO:MAC owns me at the moment! :pilotfly:

Ok I have to add my 2 cents in here... I personally do like MS flight simulator.. I think graphically it did suck until FSX came along... Well it cant really touch FC as far as graphics except in 1 point and that's the clouds..

And I do have one add on for it, the Concorde, this is very detailed and very immersive... So that Rocks...

And another thing that I'm waiting patiently to get my well manicured finger nails into  its the FA/18 that should be out in the fall some time...

Even though ya' can't actually blow things up, you can load stores, get totally acquainted with the Avionics and you can pickle missiles ...

Theres a download of the FA-18 control panel that's now available now in high resolution that you might find interesting.....

That looks really cool. Do you have any idea how much it will cost?

That would be a nice add on... although I don't have MSFSX (I do have MSFS2004)

I was talking to a former sailor just the other day... He was actually stationed onboard an aircraft carrier when he was on active duty...

So I had told him about my tour with the wing.. Anyway, we got around to discussing Marines pilots...

He said that he was on the flight deck crew and when the news got to them about Marine pilots coming on board for carrier qualifications, that everyone in the flight crew would say "look out" and dive for the nearest superstructure.. " So I just had to hit him.." well no I really didn't.. but it was funny the way he told it and we both started laughing ...
