Hi

I begin to explore the map of Hormuz. A bad point ( for all maps of DCS but I thought that the problem would be fixed on the map of Hormuz) is the edges of few mountains with meshs coming from an other age, at the SU-27-flanker times ( happilly not everywhere of course, but some edges mountains aren't worthy to the 2018 year) In absolutly no other simulator nowadays, we can find these hideous cuts.

The good now: In no other simulator too, I havn't seen a so high quality of water. The sensation of depth with the bottom of the water and the various effects are simply amazing. Big congratulations about that !

If you look at the maps, there is a detailed area that is intended as 'the map', which will usually be the area that was originally advertised as 'the map'. That area will have a high Defn. terrain mesh & will in itself be larger than most maps in similar combat flight sims.

Then there will be adjacent playable areas, that are added so that if you happen to stray outside the intended area of the map, your immersion isn't immediately destroyed.

That's added as a 'bonus' and will have a lower Defn. mesh but probably still have surface details.

If you fly far enough, the mesh will get even coarser, and the ground details will largely disappear and be replaced by simple textures.

If you fly far enough on the Caucasus map, you'll run out of 'mesh' and the land will just be flat. I think I flew North from Iran into Europe and from memory the map was flat there too.

The situation of players flying into lower mesh areas could be fixed by not including them & having the map just stop at the edge of the intended theatre (as Normandy did originally from memory), then there would be no '1990's' terrain mesh visible...

I think the current situation is a better solution though.

The Northern area of the Persian Gulf map area that now includes the Shiraz and Kerman wasn't part of the original map release & has been added in part in reaction to community requests.

You'll have to wait and see whether the transition of some of the map are from 'hinterland' to 'gamespace' improves your experience. :)

(Edit - I guess they could take the Far Cry approach and have unbeatable SAM's just shoot you down if you stray outside the playing area ;) )

I was speaking about some mountains near the Oman airport called Khasab. It's a detailled area for the other points with fabulous effect water, an detailled harbour and a very detailled airport but just near the airport, I've found this kind of bad mesh on some mountains.
