EcceHomo Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 The TACAN settings are very different from those described in A1-F18AC-NFM-000-2008. According to the VII-24-55 in the manual,"Because the upper antenna filter is fixed, it filters A/A TACAN frequencies on channels 1-36 and 64-99 (X and Y). A/A TACAN channels should be chosen outside of these ranges",The signals received by the upper and lower antennas should be distinguished, but the game didn't do it,for example,The game can receive the fuller signal at the top of the A/A TACAN 1X state. According to the VII-24-55 in the manual,“For TACAN channels in these ranges, the bottom antenna is the only antenna for TACAN. With a centerline tank installed, the antenna is blocked approximately 180°± 15° relative to the aircraft nose. This shadowing of the bottom antenna, combined with the lower transmitter power of the MIDS (200W versus 1000W for AN/ARN-118), causes reduced ranges for DME at channels within the range of the filter when flying directly away from the TACAN station.Flight test data at afloat stations shows that maximum tail-aspect DME ranges of approximately 22 nm at 6,000 feet and 26 nm at 15,000 feet can be expected to make DME unreliable when headed outbound in the marshal stack. At shore stations, flight tests have shown substantially better tail-aspect DME ranges (e.g. 52 nm at 15,000 feet)”,The game should have an impact on the rear DME ranging of the mounted centerline tank, but it still does not appear in the game
Raven (Elysian Angel) Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 (edited) The game can receive the fuller signal at the top of the A/A TACAN 1X state. NATOPS states that the upper antenna filters above mentioned range because of interference with MIDS (= the communication part of Link 16). We don't have Link 16 yet, so there is nothing to interfere with. In any case, good find, and very useful information! I for one will adjust the A/A TACAN in our missions because of this  The game should have an impact on the rear DME ranging of the mounted centerline tank, but it still does not appear in the game Let's hope this will get implemented properly during Early Access, before final Release. This is really due to the problems caused by the Link16 common antenna. Thank you for your reply. Are you a member of the production team? :)
