Cdr.Instigator Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 I apologise for posting this here, but since I'm desperate for some answere's to my dilema I had to bother you guys here too.. I'm going to un-install my ATI drivers because my system crashes completely when I'm playing BF2 or Lock-On...or Fear...or Americas Army or any game for that matter. My system is Pentium 4 3.00Ghz 1Gig Ddr X850Pro 256 and this..? What is this other ATI stuff?
PoleCat Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Once you remove all the drivers the card will most likely be listed as an unknown device until you install the new drivers. That is how it works with the nvidia cards any way. From memory I would run the uninstall as you did removing all ati components then I would download the ATI uninstall utility from their website and run it to be sure all drivers have been removed. After reboot if you are prompted for drivers just click cancel and then install the newest catalyst or what ever driver you want. Hope this helps you. Out 1 http://www.104thphoenix.com/
JonTex Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Sorry to butt in ... but the only way I was able to know for sure that I had all the ATI drivers removed from my computer I used Driver Cleaner Pro . But I caution you to remove the drivers with this program and then immediately install drivers that you find on ATI's website. Because once you use this program if you restart your computer you will not have the basic drivers to run your computer in its 256 color mode ... or whatever. I could be wrong about this but this is what happened to me. Make a long story short this program is a great way to cure any video card issues caused by corrupt drivers ... or in your case programs crashing to desktop due to conflicts caused by drivers. This gives you a fresh clean slate to start from so that you can install drivers that you know are good and not install good drivers over bad ones which places back at square one. I know Im getting a little long winded but try re-installing your drivers in this order. 1. use ATI uninstall utility 2. restart (this should render your desktop to the ugly 256 color mode) 3. once your back at desktop (assuming you already downloaded and installed DC pro) fire up DC pro and click "ok". The setup is pretty self explainatory just remember to click the little box that says mutiple options or something like that. 4.Then from the drop down box on the right go through all the selections that say ATI and add them to the list. I suggest selecting all of them just to ensure that you have all drivers removed. 5.Click the start button and then click "ok". It will take a few seconds and then your done. If you want you can click the "details" tab and it will show all the drivers that were removed. 6. Now assuming that you have downloaded the latest drivers for your card from ATI fire up the installation wizard and install your new drivers. Sorry I went all out on you there but I know the pain and suffering that comes with Video Card drivers as I just went through this with a previous ATI card. Hope this helps bud. Tex 2 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
