simtafa Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Hi all; My system specs are;E6600;Asus P5B mobo;2x1GB Twinmos Ram;MSI 8800GTS 320Mb;Seagate 160GB SATAII Disk,Samsung 931c LCD. Running with nVidia drivers 158.19 and latest bios update. Here is my problem(Not LockOn Specific),after messing with my bios settings(played with ram latency's and harddisk IDE/AHCI mode settings) games are now running very choppy and stutter badly. Before that everything was as smooth as a baby's bottom(IL2 1946,rFactor,PES6 and LockOn) Here is step by step what I did prior to this problem. 1.Everything is fine and running great,my stupid self decides to play with bios settings. 2.changed Dram frequencies;computer does not boots,I reset bios via shortcutting jumper on the board.Back to default bios settings. 3.Everything seems fine for a while till my stupid self strikes back, within minutes I changed SATA\PATA controller mode to IDE to AHCI.(controller was in IDE mode,I didn't installed SATA drivers on winXP install) 4.After restart Windows XP goes wild(do not remember exact details) 5.I reset the bios again.restart WinXP,everything seems ok. 6.After I while(maybe a day or two) GAMES(no major problems on desktop applications or internet applications) started to perform badly almost locking up,turns into a slideshow within 5 to 10 minutes.Really unplayable. 7.Contacted my customer support explained the problem;adviced me to reinstall XP before taking my system to technical service.I did that, games run with out any problems now except, being very choppy. For example on LockOn 1.12a with default Su-27 quick mission I get 80-100 fps on the start but when I do rolls it stutters very badly(without any loss of major fps loss),flying low, trees and the ground simply does not flow under me smoothly,it's again stuttering. 8.Updated my bios, still no good.
Ven Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Well, since you reinstalled everything, first obvious check is to make sure all your settings are same as before. Graphic driver setting such as Vsync can cause stuttering. Check all your controller, sound, and any other hardware drivers are current. After checking all that, I would try reseating the RAM. Take both your RAM out and simply put them back in. This is basic troubleshooting procedure that often worked for me. I recommend putting the RAM back in reverse order. But if it stutters without fps loss, I'm suspecting it's more simple issue such as Vsync setting. Also, nVidia has newer driver version.
hitman Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Your gonna hate me for suggesting this: 3.Everything seems fine for a while till my stupid self strikes back, within minutes I changed SATA\PATA controller mode to IDE to AHCI.(controller was in IDE mode,I didn't installed SATA drivers on winXP install) DONT DO THAT. Keep it default, your not going to gain "much" in performance, and the hassle is not worth the benefits. As it is, I believe your raid drivers are porked or you may have damaged the hard drive with this. Id hate to tell you to reformat and reset the bios again...but if all else fails dont throw objects through your monitor as this will cost you more money too. ;)
VMFA-Blaze Posted May 19, 2007 Posted May 19, 2007 Its not recommended that you change to a raid setup after you finished a reformat... You have to set up raid at the beginning... I just finished doing two re formats on two systems this week, so its still clear in my mind... But I've read so much in the last 4 days I can't remember where I saw it... I'm afraid that you're going to have to do it all over again .. and don't forget that If you want to go with raid you'll have to set it up in the BIOS before you start the initial windows install... ~S~ Blaze intel Cor i7-6700K ASUS ROG MAX VIII Extreme G.Skill TridentZ Series 32 GB Samsung 850 Pro 1TB SATA II ASUS GTX 1080/DIRECTX 12 Windows 10 PRO Thrustmaster Warthog Oculus Rift VR

christopher m Posted May 19, 2007 Posted May 19, 2007 trouble shooting; All your other apps seem to work fine.. so you're not in bad shape. If it's just games with problems then you know it's probably just Mem settings or Graphic card settings. (if MB chipset software is correctly installed) In the BIOS just make sure the Mem settings are correct for your Mem sticks and Motherboard. (also default or auto settings work best ) Then after that check your Graphic card settings. Use default or Auto settings first. (low performance) Then go from there. Main thing is don't panic, Think rationally.... calm positive thoughts. Regards, [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Christopher M
Ven Posted May 19, 2007 Posted May 19, 2007 Yeah, what the other two, informative LockOn comunity members ;) , have said... I recomend you reinstall everything again from scratch, and I mean everything. Kill the RAID setup... kill all partitions... rebuild RAID (make up your mind on the settings and NO NOT CHANGE THEM EVER)... then create partitions... then install windows... then drivers... and so on... long process but worth doing in these kinds of situations. One good thing came out of this for you and that's you've learned something in process and that's ALWAYS a benefit :D Next time you'll know better not to mess with these kinds of settings on already configured system. He doesn't have RAID... at least he didn't mention it on his post. And if everything works fine but only problem is stutter in games, I doubt the hard drives are damaged. It's most likely graphic card setting.

simtafa Posted May 20, 2007 Author Posted May 20, 2007 Hi again and thanks guys; I did everything from scratch(reset bios, cleared partitions, format disk completely) but stiil no good, still stuttering heavily;then I plugged another harddisk to computer and just copied the Lock On folder to it and ran the game from that disk, not only it plays a lot smoother but it loads faster(same as before this problem began) than my original disk's current status. After this I'm going to install my other computer's harddisk which has another copy of Lock On installed and observe the changes,I'll update this post as soon as possible after testing it.
