Uninstalling past versions

I updated from 1.5.8 stable to 2.5 stable and have been with 2.5 for some time now. As I am not using 1.5.8, can this be uninstalled or do I still need it in conjunction with 2.5?

 

If it is not needed, is it a straight forward removal? I want to install 2.5 beta as there seems to be more multiplayer servers and running out of space on my hd.

Though i choose to keep it , 1.5 may be uninstalled without effecting 2.5 .

Thanks Svsmokey. I think I will keep it for a bit just in case. Then when I am ready, remove it
