Eddie Posted October 25, 2018 Posted October 25, 2018 Point remains though that these missile warning systems don't tell you that a missile is actually launched at you, but rather that a missile was launched at all. You can easily see this distinction by overflying an area in your A-10C while - say - a group of Ka-50s launch Vikhrs at tanks. The MWS will light up all the time. In DCS yes. In reality it’s a much more complex than that. Some systems can certainly determine if the threat is targeting the aircraft or not. It depends on the type of system (UV/IR/RADAR), type and number of sensors, and processing capability/software & mission data design.
Haukka81 Posted October 25, 2018 Posted October 25, 2018 And in reality nothing works 100% sure for all time. We have still too much trust to RWR .. Oculus CV1, Odyssey, Pimax 5k+ (i5 8400, 24gb ddr4 3000mhz, 1080Ti OC ) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
GGTharos Posted October 25, 2018 Posted October 25, 2018 If you couldn't trust your RWR, there wouldn't be a point in having one. RL type degradation (false contacts, failure to process due to saturated environment or equipment failure) is not modeled and probably will never be. I'll take your word for it, but to my knowledge there currently is no system fittable to a fighter jet that would do that.
GGTharos Posted October 25, 2018 Posted October 25, 2018 When you have radar you have vectors, and it's possible that you can measure such with a passive system (or combined passive/laser) as well and thus determine if said projectile is on an intercept course. Actually, a passive system with enough resolution can determine that an object is on collision course by the PN principle. I'll take your word for it, but to my knowledge there currently is no system fittable to a fighter jet that would do that.
