Rex854Warrior Posted October 24, 2018 Posted October 24, 2018 Hello, I noticed that when using the vertical lock and boresight mode, I had to press the lock button when the target was inside the search cone of each respective mode. It kind of defeats the point of an ACM mode, is it supposed to be like that ? Regards, Rex. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

I think its a system simplification from Lock on times and it have never been changed. It works the same in the SU27. Oddly enough it works automatically for the F15 at least in the vertical acquisition mode from what i can remember. PD: Speaking off the top of my head, feel free to correct me. PD2: Probably someone knowledgeable on Russian birds like Alfa will tell you if its actually like that in Russian planes.
GGTharos Posted October 24, 2018 Posted October 24, 2018 The US jets indeed have AUTO acquisition modes, and the radar locks on by itself, as per the operations manual. The Russian jets require you to push the lock button, as per the operations manual. I think its always been like that on russian planes in FC3. Rex854Warrior Posted October 24, 2018 Author Posted October 24, 2018 Alright, I'll have to get used to it :) Thank you. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

In Close Combat mode, target acquisition is semi-automatic - pressing the "Lock on" button on the throttle, the radar automatically locks on to the nearest target within the(vertical) scan area - i.e. unlike with the search modes, where you need to pre-select the target(with target cursor) first. So yes its supposed to be like that :) JJ
