Hi

I want to upgrade my current i5 2550 (locked), 16GB 1333 DDR3 and 1050TI system, for DCS, and hopefully use VR down the line.

I put the following components in my basket, and before I pull the trigger, just wanted to gauge opinion on the choices being worthwhile within my limited budget?

MSI GeForce GTX 1060 6GT OC V1 6GB GDDR5 VR Ready Graphics Card, 1280 Core, 1544MHz GPU, 1759MHz Boost

Intel Core i5 9600K, S 1151, Coffee Lake Refresh, 6 Core, 6 Thread, 3.7GHz, 4.6GHz Turbo, 9MB, 1150MHz GPU, 95W,

Gigabyte Z370 AORUS ULTRA GAMING 2.0-OP, Intel Z370, S1151, DDR4, SATA3, Dual-M.2, ATX Motherboard w/ 32GB Intel Optane

16GB (2x8GB) Corsair DDR4 Vengeance LPX Black, PC4-19200 (2400), Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 14-16-16-31, XMP 2.0, 1.2V

Opinions much appreciated!

Most looks good , but i think many would agree gtx1060 is inadequate for vr . 1070 or better ok .

The 9600K is pretty good. I replaced my 4670K with one last weekend (but on a Z390 Motherboard and the some 3200MHz RAM) and it made a decent impact on overall performance. Overclocks to 5GHz easily with a H80i water cooler. I would agree about the graphics though, a 1070 would be a minimum for VR in DCS for me.

Just wondering, if the 1060 doesn't cut it for VR, and it'll be a while before I go that route, is it worth the upgrade from 1050 ti to 1060 at this point?

Just a bit concerned that the 1050 would bottleneck the new CPU though.

IMO , stash the 1060 cash in the 1070 fund .

The 1060 6GB is well suited for 1080p as many Pilots here stated.

For VR, it's rather the opposite I am afraid to say.

You better hang on to the 1050 and save some more, if you really wanna go VR, a 1080 or better 1080ti is the minimum you need. No one with a sane mind buys a 2080 now, so you have to be prepared for higher prices in the 1xxx arena.
