Is it possible to have a 3 lighthouse base station set up? I would like to have one pointed at my DCS set up and the other two in another area where I can move around for full motion VR. Can I get by with only one base station for the static VR set up?

3 stations is not a valid setup

you can work with one. but you might have blind spots.

two can be set to work No problem.

set one station in the corner nearest your rig. make sure the esge of the cone (it's about 120 degrees) will cover with it's edge all of your sim station. place the other station on the oposite corner of the room, and make sure it has the sim area in sight.

this will ensure that you would be covered regardless of where you look.

and the rest of the cone of both will cover the "main play area".

Thanks uri_ba. I guess i'll just move them when I have to. Maybe, get an extra set of mounts or stands.

That is the nice thing with the Valve/HTC design that you can cover as many devices there are in the same space, but just with two lighthouses. The downside is that you need all the controllers to have more hardware to do the calculations and have all the dozens of cameras.

While Oculus implementation is that you have 1-3 cameras per computer (player) but you can easily have very simple and tiny controllers as each of them only requires to have IR LED lights that are visible to cameras.

Adding more lighthouses to HTC setup just starts to confuse the sensors in devices as they receive more "laser beams/scans".
