RedeyeStorm Posted November 24, 2018 Posted November 24, 2018 Hello all, I play mostly SP so a cooperating wingman is important. I noticed with a single wingman that After take off the wingman automatically rejoins in in echelon right formation. If I do nothing and run into ground contacts the wingman starts calling them out. When ordered to attack said targets he consistently says unable. When I change the formation right after take off and we run into ground targets he then procedes to attack those targets without problems. The targets are vehicles and tanks (through the inferno mission), not static target.
Tinkickef Posted November 24, 2018 Posted November 24, 2018 (edited) Hello all, I play mostly SP so a cooperating wingman is important. When I change the formation right after take off and we run into ground targets he then procedes to attack those targets without problems. The targets are vehicles and tanks (through the inferno mission), not static target. When entering target area, press "cover me". The wingman will then call out targets. When he has called out the target you want him to engage, tell him to do so. This works on BVR air to air engagements I can only usually pick up targets on radar at 40 miles or so in the hornet at present. He has superpowers and will call them out at 200 miles plus. metzger Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 It will vary depends on the airframe you fly. I used to use "cover me" quite often, it worked well for KA-50 warning you for upcoming "hidden" AAA/SAM sites. I find wingman more useful as a "sensor" rather than for an actual attacks, I use him for attacks only if I am out of ordnance as his attack patterns are awkward and he gets shot down most of the times. You can use him as a bite for sure. However, with the 2.5 new tree system, they will quite often fail to see a unit just because there is a tree somewhat in front if it even if it is perfectly visible. So don't get too comfortable just because the wingman doesn't see threads. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
sk000tch Posted November 27, 2018 Posted November 27, 2018 As mentioned, useful as a sensor, and to engage certain targets depending on airframe. A-10c for example, the AI superhuman ability to get 6 mags off against anti air in a single pass is handy, as is their ability to snipe infantry in trees that you will never spot. Also as others have stated, they are more ordinance, and sometimes you can’t carry enough. I struggle more controlling them in CAP roles than ground attack, you can’t effectively assign airborne targets like you can with a human (or ground targets by attack my SPI), and just telling them to engage bandit will result in you firing up tacview to figure out what preceded the “ejecting” call. An extreme liability at other times, again, partially airframe dependent. Not so much to you, though I’ve been hit mid air, especially refueling or when tbey freak out if you forgot to call RTB and they attempt to hold formation while you are full flaps and gear down. Their propensity to fly into mountains and wreck your campaign score is a frequent occurrence. Again, depends on module, but “anchor here” is a phrase you should know. just a dude who probably doesn't know what he's talking about

Yoda967 Posted November 28, 2018 Posted November 28, 2018 Apparently, AI wingmen are overly sensitive to IADS, and if there are any enemy IADS units located anywhere on the map, an order to your wingman to engage will be met with "negative." Have you tried going into the group's Advanced Actions panel > Set Options > Reaction to Threat and set "Passive Defence"?
