wilbur81 Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 (edited) I just received my first ever Warthog last week after years with Saitek's X-45 and X-55. Out of the box, the stick is FANTASTIC! However, the throttle was pretty disappointing in some crucial areas. Not the levers themselves or their very smooth action...but the buttons and switches on the throttle. Most of my X-55 buttons were/are much better in feel, response, consistency, etc. and the general ergonomics are better. Anyhow, beyond opinion: after less than a week and only 3 or 4 hours of use, the mini-slew stick (which is absolute crap as most people have said) now does not consistently return to center after being released. I re-calibrated and still no joy. It was working fine for the first couple of uses though. I'm going to send it back and get another unit. My question: Has anyone else experienced problems with your mini-stick on the throttle not always returning to center when released? Bummer that such an otherwise excellent (and expensive) product has some of these silly issues that I've read about. wilbur81 Posted December 6, 2018 Author Posted December 6, 2018 Appreciate that link! Not sure I'm yet ready to spend another $60 dollars on this already-out-of-my-price- range HOTAS. :-) i7 8700K @ Stock - Win10 64 - 32 RAM - RTX 3080 12gb OC - 55 inch 4k Display

chief Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 Trust us. The ministick is absolute crap. Mine did the same yours did. Get the slew upgrade. Well worth the hassle of using that mini stick
wilbur81 Posted December 6, 2018 Author Posted December 6, 2018 (edited) Trust us. The ministick is absolute crap. Believe me... after one minute with the thing, 'crap' was abundantly obvious... no trust needed. :-) Seriously disappointing that TM failed to get this right. It's also interesting that, at least in it's current state, the Hornet is really not great with the TM Warthog in terms of button functionality on the Throttle. For example, you can't use the other 4 or 8 way hats with TDC on the Hornet like you can with the other modules (ala F-15C) because the cursor movement is so slow and blocky. METEOP Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 Just got a Warthog myself! And the slew is c.r.a.p. as profusely stated. However, I played around a bit in the Axis Tune section of configs and actually managed to make it not so bad at all! Now I have managed to make it progressive like a 'pointing device' on a laptop. Adjusting the deadzone and the progressiveness curve made it even better! It is much more usable now than the 'stock' axis tuning I find. sideshow Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 Just ordered that mini stick. Can't wait to get it and install it. Looks like they're on pre order until sometime in February though. Going to be a long wait.
wilbur81 Posted December 7, 2018 Author Posted December 7, 2018 (edited) A concern I have about investing any more money in my week-old-Warthog is this: Other switches/buttons (such as the Mic switch and it's button) feel so sketchy, and I've read a good many reviews of people having to replace buttons and switches after owning for a year or two... I'm almost ready to buy another X-5? from Logitech. My X-55 needed some throttle rewiring...but the buttons and switches are all going strong 4+ years into it. Tic-Tac Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 4 years in and my Warthog has been 100% all along, not sure if my experience is typical or not...that is apart from the slew I also got the stick extension a year ago, made a huge difference to the quality of control, can't imagine going back to just the grip again But I'm glad you posted this here, I hadn't realised how straight forward the slew upgrade was...now I just need to wait 'til February!
jimcarrel Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 the part that I'm always messing up is the toggle switch on outer throttle. This is a good replacement and 20X better than original. I ordered 3 of them.... it's easy to hit with the weirdest objects. Here: Just for future reference. Win 10 64 bit Intel I-7 7700K 32GB Ram Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 6gig

wilbur81 Posted December 14, 2018 Author Posted December 14, 2018 (edited) Hey, Fellas. Believe it or not, I actually returned my Warthog and purchased the new (all black) Logitech X-56 HOTAS instead. My primary reasoning: It's just way more functional. I found that I'm a better virtual combat pilot with the X-56 and I'm willing to sacrifice some 'feel' (The Warthog stick feels SO MUCH better than the X-5* series) for functionality. Minus the short throw of the X-56 throttle, I greatly prefer the ergonomics and number of switches (and their placement) over the Warthog's. METEOP Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 Could you share your settings please? I've suddenly developed the slew cursor drift problem also. Hey sorry it took a while, here is what I like best so far: (taken from the config .lua file) ["changed"] = { [1] = { ["filter"] = { ["curvature"] = { [1] = 0.3, }, ["deadzone"] = 0, ["invert"] = false, ["saturationX"] = 1, ["saturationY"] = 0.5, ["slider"] = false, }, ["key"] = "JOY_X", }, }, ["name"] = "HOTAS Slew Horizontal", }, ["a2034cdnil"] = { ["changed"] = { [1] = { ["filter"] = { ["curvature"] = { [1] = 0.3, }, ["deadzone"] = 0, ["invert"] = false, ["saturationX"] = 1, ["saturationY"] = 0.5, ["slider"] = false, }, ["key"] = "JOY_Y", }, }, ["name"] = "HOTAS Slew Vertical", I don't seem to have any drift though, maybe because it's new? ReflexArc Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 I've ordered the delta mini-stick. Until then, I use the TDC curves suggested in the A-10C on other modules, sometimes with a slightly higher Y-saturation. Something like deadzone = 40 Y sat = 40 curve = 0. I'm curious, while we're on the topic of new WARTHOGs, whether anyone else finds that they have to press on the far end of the brake switch to get it to move? For example, if I'm trying to pull it back to engage the airbrake, I have to "push" it from the front because "pulling" from the back impacts it within its housing and keeps it from moving (due to a good bit of wobble in the button piece itself). smallberries Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 I agree that the mic button press is pretty janky too. Which is why I never use it, it would be very difficult to press it and not accidentally press a direction on the stick. Other than that, with a slew upgrade, I'm very happy about 2 years in. The rest of it is well enough made imo.
tea_cypher Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 Ahh ok, maybe it a feature you should consider with the harrier, as pushing past 100% (or even 95%) is never a good idea. Thanks i will dive into the code, its intetesting to learn
