Got them really cheap on ebay, planing on using them on this Intel Intel DQ67SW mATX 1155 Motherboard with an i5-2500 3.3GHz that support Dual DDR3 1066/1333 mhz will the 1866mhz work on it?

No other ram installed

2nd gen core-i series goes till 2133mhz in imc

I would think that the system will adjust the speed to the max supported by that board, just want to make sure it wont affect stability

 

If it boots, then yes it probably defaulted to 1333 and you wasted the extra cash on MHz you can't use.

depends on how friendly the Bios is.

 

With Intel boards you might be right, sadly.

slower almost always works 100% of the time.

pushing them to fast is when the problems start.

 

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, wonder if they would last a longer time being run at much slower speed

likely yes, but i would ask yourself a different question....

 

are you really going to use that ram in 20 years?

 

if not, i wouldn’t worry about trying to save it and make it last longer

as long as you dont pump up the voltage it's all good for a lifetime :)
