peter Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 Hello, Im not a genius at the mission editor and would like to know what vehicle or aircraft to insert to be able to give me laser designation and ground tasking. I though it it would be an E2 or E3 but see no drop down option to enable a FAC or JTAC task. Is it a ground unit that I should be trying to insert? Ultimately I just want some sort of laser designation for bombs and missiles. Thank you!
Hog_No32 Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 Hi Peter, the E-2 and E-3 cannot perform JTAC task - besides many other reasons, keep in mind a JTAC naturally is located very close to the enemy while the aforementioned airborne assets are usually operating in a certain distance to the battlefield. You can try either ground assets like a Humvee or a Stryker or use air assets, an A-10 can do the job or you can use an unmanned Reaper/Predator (I always forget which one we have...). Regardless of the unit chosen bear in mind there are distance limitations for the laser designation (IIRC something around 7 or 8 miles maximum). So if you place the JTAC unit too far away from the target(s) it shall assign then the laser designation does not work - JTAC will then use a Type 3 without designation. When using the "Assign Group" advanced waypoint action, you will already see a little warning in the ME when the distance for laser designation is too big or when there is no Line-of-Sight at all. In general, there plenty of good reads here in the forum on JTAC setups. Just search and browse. Cheers
Zarni Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 This has some sort of list of JTAC capable ground units. Everything is possible except skiing through revolving doors.
Eagle7907 Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 Also infantry can lase. However, only during daylight at the moment. I can’t seem to get the troops to lase at night without using scripts. Tj1376 Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 Enable JTAC or FAC in ME This video has some sort of list of JTAC capable ground units. If any of you have figured out how to get a Stryker or Hmmvv TOW to provide a type 2 in effect message upon contact, let me know. But I think this graphic is either woefully outdated OR a bug was introduced in the latest OB. TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
SUNTSAG Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 Hi I have absolutely no problem with obtaining a type two from either of those vehicles in OB. Cheers. Callsign: NAKED My YouTube Channel [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Grimes Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 There are some bugs with JTAC, but notably the circle around the JTAC has to have the target inside it in order for the JTAC to decide to lase the target. As a result the laser range is directly proportional to the weapon/optics range of the unit. AFAC will currently never lase to do a bug. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. So I’m getting type 3 because the range of the Stryker and hmmvv TOW is outside of the range of its weapons. Move them closer (like in the above example) and I should have no issue? Grief- it sounds like it would be easier to learn CTLD. :( TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Wrench Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 Can you get a JTAC when set to invisible in 2.5.4? I'm using the enroute fac option, because I'm spawning/telporting/etc eny units with mist, so I can't easily assign then manually. If the JTAC is visible it works fine, but as soon as I set it to invisible, no matter the order of tasks, it always reports 'no tasking available.' Anybody know what the deal is? Carrier Script.
