Hi guys,

As title says, could someone give me advice is it worth it to change my 5 year old i7 4770k for a new build with i9 9900k for DCS in VR?

I am playing mostly in VR. My current performance is nice but not as good as I thought after watching many VR optimization videos about dcs. FPS sometimes go under 45 (ASW ON) and this is strange for 1080TI. I am playing also some CPU demanding games like Total War series and Arma3. Will performance actuallly be significtially improved? Any tips?

Those other games can be tested with apps like msi afterburner to see if there is a bottleneck which you might have depending on the game optimization CPU/GPU bound?

DCS and VR in general are more GPU bound and 2 x rendering screens. I setup to try and hold 45 in decent size missions. DCS is one of the toughest of VR apps you can run.

Some like to run MSAA 2x with a PD of 1.2 etc.

MSAA really has a fps hit, hence the 1.2 PD.

I hit the VR pre set, then all textures to high, view to high, tress to 70% for less popping and PD at 1.5 with no MSAA.

What settings are you trying to run with your 1080ti to hold 45 fps?

How large are the mission your trying to play? There are limits, not tried any real large missions myself for a while, so not sure how they run now.

@David OC I have very simmilar settings. I lowered only Terrain Textures and shadows to low. Playing with 1.5 PD or 1.2 PD with MSAA. Anisotropic set to 4x, cocpit res 1024 and terrain shadows off.

In medium mission like 14 aircrafts and carrier on Persian Gulf I am getting 25 fps on carrier deck when looking at other F18, 45 fps in the sky.

@DEMON_ Yeah delid and oc to 5.0 would be a lot cheaper... I will consider it, thanks for the advice.

You could delid and overclock to 5.0, if you were lucky enough TO get it to 5ghz. The 4770k IS a good chip, but even past the 7700k series you get better performance in every other app that you might run. Certain chips dont even have dedicated onboard video which releases a little bit of overhead. I came from a 4770k to an 8086k - differences in DCS were negligible, but in P3D it was extraordinary. But to be honest, the AMD threadripper is a better buy than a 9900k dollar per lb.
