I can attest it's sooo buggy. Yeah, give in and give us Linux.

Interesting stuff that's going on. Don't think MS has monetized Windows for ages, maybe they think the old platform lock is no longer maintainable. Think their money is in the business infrastructure where the platform lock is at a higher layer.

they need to interact, interoperate and support linux workloads, but i don’t see them releasing their own distribution for users

they get a lot of complaints and support calls from windows 10 users.

they would get 100x more from those users using linux

i don’t think they could afford it

About 20 years ago, there really was Lindows. If I recall, it used the horribly slow WINE API.

I'll believe it when I see it on the desktop.

I think MS are potentially going to be in trouble in the next few years anyway without a shift on something though.

With most new apps getting Dockerized, and then deployed on either a Docker Swarm or a Kubernetes Cluster, it's now rather easy to swap between local or cloud providers, which is where the money is (PaaS).

Azure has some cool bits (eg, CosmosDB), but the dashboard is rubbish, and MS have gone for a kitchen sink approach to try and tempt people into using it, compared to say, Google, who only do a few things, but do them very well from what I hear.
