Over the past few months I have had many opportunities to do Air to Ground missions in flights with other pilots and one thing has consistently popped up.

I see ground targets sooner than most people. It's officially annoying because it often takes the fun out of the missions.

I run at 4xAF and 4xAA at 1680x1050 (21in Widescreen)

I fully understand that the armored targets are appearing because the ground textures aren't rendering that far out, but is there a universally applicable fix for this?

The higher resolutions make this possible (i.e. I cant see these targets at say 1280x1024,) but 4:3 ratio 1600x1200 CRT's were certainly available when this game was first made...

Click this link and then click it once more to get the fullest res... look just right of the maverick cursor... 22 miles! :noexpression:

this is some distance fudd (we may call you eagleeye from now on :smilewink:).

got no idea what this is - mine start showing at approx 11 miles or 12 miles, just did a test with a columne of T80s - 12 miles is already some distance and i was wondering sometime ago on how to reduce this since camoflaged or dug in targets certainly cannot be spotted without binos from such a distance. i got the same specs as you (almost) 22inch at 1680x1050. maybe a gfx card issue ? or have you got any mods installed ?

I get the same thing, as I can see a convoy of trucks from approximately 15 nm away. I can also spot ZSU's from same distance, and individual Igla manpads at 10nm. Ironically I can hit those Iglas with Mav's at about 6nm. Now I know them uniforms were made (I know BDU's US has) were made to reduce a heat signature, which is why your not supposed to starch them. Regardless, I shouldnt be able to spot any sort of camoflaged target from 10-15 miles away unless it leaves a dust trail unless its lased or using an IR tracking device. Im certain this is a LOD problem as they look like little black boxes on the landscape.

Visually ID'ing them in haze makes it waaay too easy. Like seeing buildings in haze at 20nm, they pop up as well. This is annoying, although Im not complaining about my kill ratio.

I have same thing Fudd. I can spot ground units from 20/30km away easy... especially if flying low. Sometimes I can even spot a manpad from well over 10km.

I think LOD for far distance are way too big... where as when they aproach distance and transform into higher LOD... they become invisible.

I think also the normal mist (fog) you have in the air is not working on ground units, and unlike structures, they don't fade away... and I think they should.

I hope this is fixed in blackShark but then again we'll have it harder in A2G missions :D

Whether you have your view distance set to low, med or high (high makes the whole LO world so much better - shame it eats FPS) seems to also determine when the LODS kick in. Set at high LO seems to use a higher lod at a greater distance - units aren't turned into black cubes & so their camo continues to work. ?

Cheers.
