tmansteve Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 Had a fly in the SU25T for the first time in ages and thought I would test the autopilot. Worked a treat until I disengaged it. The plane wouldn't level out and kept banking to the left and nose diving. The second player tried the autopilot for landing and dived straight to the ground. Is this still an ongoing problem? Cheers
Ironhand Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 Had a fly in the SU25T for the first time in ages and thought I would test the autopilot. Worked a treat until I disengaged it. The plane wouldn't level out and kept banking to the left and nose diving. The second player tried the autopilot for landing and dived straight to the ground. Is this still an ongoing problem? Cheers A couple of things. First, the AP uses trim to control the aircraft. So, when you disengage the AP, you inherit the trim settings in place at that moment. For instance, if you are in a climbing turn to the right at the moment you disenage the AP, you will be trimmed nose up, left wing up. You will need to retrim in order to resume properly trimmed flight. Most folks just use "LCtrl+T"(I think that's it) to neutralize all trim and start trimming from there. Alternatively, only turn off the AP when in level flight. As far as landing with the AP is concerned, what happens depends on where you are landing. The following observations are made using the Route Following mode accessed by "Lalt+6". If you are landing on a Russian ILS equipped runway--there are only 6 on the Crimean map--the AP will take you smoothly down via the ADI needles to about the outer marker. At that point you need to take control because teh AP stops behaving. If, OTOH, you are landing on a non-Russian ILS equipped runway, the flight director will take you down to a smooth landing. Disengage the AP at around 50 m altitude, if it doesn't release automatically, and make a manual landing. So long story made short, yes there are problems in landing mode. tmansteve Posted January 7, 2019 Author Posted January 7, 2019 Thanks Ironhand. I'm not sure, but i think i tried trim reset but nothing happened. Could be that i was hosting and big delay. I will try disengaging from level flight and see if that does the trick. But what made my mate do a vertical dive and crash into the ground. We were landing in the same airfield? Cheers
Ironhand Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 ...But what made my mate do a vertical dive and crash into the ground. We were landing in the same airfield? Not sure. He should have been good until about 8 km from the runway. After that one of two things happen--at least on the Caucasus map-either the AP transitions to emergency level flight or the flight director takes over and brings you to down to the runway. In neither case do you crash. Did he perhaps not monitor his airspeed and accidently stall the aircraft? At what altitude did this happen? tmansteve Posted January 7, 2019 Author Posted January 7, 2019 No. I think he hit it at around 800. Before he knew it, he didn't get a chance to bail out.
Ironhand Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 No. I think he hit it at around 800. Before he knew it, he didn't get a chance to bail out. Did this happen when he engaged the AP? Or was it after awhile. Perhaps he could post the track file. If he does, I'll take a look to see what happened. Otherwise there are too many variables to determine what happened. In looking at the current state of the AP, there was nothing to suggest what happened to him. discwalker Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 Not fair to players: Su-25T has no trim to neutral function 1 GTX 1070 8GB, 16GB DDR3, W8.1 on SSD, DCS on another SSD
tmansteve Posted January 8, 2019 Author Posted January 8, 2019 Didn't keep the track so will do some more tests later. Enjoy my other modules more so not too worried. Just wish ED could put the brakes on for a bit and get as many bugs sorted so that the sim is running smoothly before racing ahead with new content as to me, this is pretty good as it is. I know we need progress, but with all the other problems people are having seems a bit counter productive.

I'd need his to be able to tell anything--assuming it played back correctly in the first place. Not fair to players: Su-25T has no trim to neutral function You're right. I'd forgotten that there is no "Ctrl+T" option for the Su-25T. I don't normally use the AP and, when I do it's seldom Route Following. I normally use either Attitude or Baro Hold so just trimming is enough. But Level to Horizon is always an alternative as is "Altitude and Roll Hold"(???) LAlt+2. For the latter, force the stick over to where you need it to do what you want and hit the key combo. If extreme, you might need to hold the stick for a bit. tmansteve Posted January 9, 2019 Author Posted January 9, 2019 I know where the tracks are saved but only keep a track if it is worth creating a movie. I was only asking if anyone new anything. Thank you for the information and key combos. Like I said, I have many other modules that I enjoy.
