In an attempt to upgrade I bought a new Samsung QLED curved 27 " gaming monitor and a new EVGA Geforce rtx 2070. The card powers up fine, as does the monitor, but nothing shows up on the screen using either HDMI or DisplayPort cords.

So I put my old Radeon R390 card back in, and while the DP connection produces nothing, the HDMI link does work.

I suppose the 2070 could be a dud, but is it possible I'm missing some trick or step to fix this? Anyone else have this problem? Is there some button or control switch I've overlooked. The instructions on both items are just about non-existent.

Hi Franx - I'm just guessing without being able to look over your shoulder, but I suspect you may have remnants of both the RTX and Radeon drivers lurking about in your system that may be interfering with each other. Download the latest nVidia drivers for the RTX 2070, do not install yet. Reinstall your RTX 2070 hardware, then go to Windows Control Panel, Programs and Features, and uninstall every nVidia and Radeon driver you can find listed there. Afterwards, run the nVidia exe you downloaded to install a fresh set of drivers and hopefully that might resolve the issue for you.

Edit: Oh, wait... duh. You won't have a working monitor to do the installs with using the RTX. Download the RTX drivers as mentioned above, don't install. Back up your current system. Disable or unplug your network adapter so Windows can't automatically download/reinstall the Radeon drivers while that card is active. Try uninstalling all the drivers while you have a working monitor with the Radeon. Where you want to get to is just having Windows default VGA drivers installed so you may have to go through a couple iterations of driver uninstalls to get there. Then you can shut it down, reinstall the RTX 2070, start the system and then run the nVidia driver exe you downloaded if you're able to get output at that point. Reenable your network adapter.

Thanks GD. I tried everything for a day and a half, then just got fed up and sent it back. Nothing worked. My Radeon R 390 gfx serves the need just fine now with DisplayPort connection, and I'll defer any nVidia card until I'm ready to switch from an AMD to an Intel mobo.

Nothing like tech problems to make your week.

No picture before Windows loads has nothing to with drivers. Good decision to return the card.

Why does the DP connection suddenly work ok?

The monitor is new and I was cycling through its controls improperly. But I tried exactly the same sequences with the NVidia card.

I have the same/similar problem as yours, but with an LG G-Sync monitor and a 2080. Monitor and cables (hdmi and display port) worked fine on my old pc with a gtx970.

I only got a signal after a couple of hard resets, where the pc would change default display port. It would run fine after that. Shut down the computer, restarted it after an hour or two, no problem. Then I would try to start it in the morning, no signal! Several resets later, working again. So, I'll know tomorrow morning I guess, if the problem still persists. Just now I made the following changes:

Changed the BIOS boot priority again. Settled on the correct one (I hope) after seeing a schematic on the EVGA forums.

Then I used DDU (display driver uninstaller) for the old drivers (I was running 411 ...).

And lastly, I turned off Fast Startup, mentioned in another thread.

I have a feeling that this won't resolve the problem however, and I need to look further into the BIOS. Fortunately I have someone to help me out in this department. I'll let you know if something comes up.
