Awacs Radar Fail our not?

Hi, Let me explain what's happening.

Yesterday I was flying (Multiplayer) with the radar on looking for something to shoot down on my F-18, the AWACS warning me that the farthest enemy would be at 50mn, when suddenly I am shot down by a Su-33 very close to me at 10Mn with infrared missile (no warning is of course), what would AWACS be doing? A snack and did not say anything?

It is the question to multiplayer friends. Does AWACS not detect low-flying, low-speed airplanes, and of course with radar off?

I would assume they would have trouble detecting terrain masking targets. During AWACS ambush missions I can usually mange to keep them off my RWR if I keep my belly in the weeds.

I forgot to comment it was flying over the ocean, there was only a small island nearby, it was in Dubai.

Did you ask for bogey dope? If it was just random awacs call they may not report the closest target.

 

Bogey dope with give you BRA of closest target detected.

Yes, of course I requested it, the server was also full and I realize that sometimes AWACS does not respond to me or to other players.

I was flying FL20 at 400kn. 70% Engine.

I know that with my radar emitting I am a flash in the dark, plus my question is if the AWACS radar does not detect aircraft in the situation of being hidden, even over the ocean.

Would be nice to see an AWACS and GCI update where they would notify you of important things like enemy aircraft on an intercept course to you.... AFAIK you only get tge random calls or when you ask for bogey dope

With the new SA page on the FA-18, I can now see what the AWACs is seeing and have been surprised how often contacts drop or don't appear (just SIL your radar and turn off F/F and just get data from AWACs). I have not done testing as to why, but as the AWACs turns, contacts can drop and also depending on the AWACs aspect to the target as it moves on its orbit, contacts can drop. Not sure how realistic this is but now I don't have the same confidence in its calls after seeing this on SA.

I guess the altitude you put the AWACS on has an effect too right? what are the normal cruising altitudes? I put them at 25k to 30k in missions.
