speed-of-heat Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 Your Mileage May Vary - Not suggesting you do this just reporting my findings. So I like everyone else have been OC'ing my GPU, and doing so with the usual perf bench marks which absolutely beat the heck out of the CPU and GPU... so I had a modest overclock on my GPU of 120mhz stable which took me to about 1987Mhz in game. This was nice. I then monitored the GPU utilisation and it was round about 60-70% which made me think how much headroom was there in the performance of my GPU before stability was impacted running DCS, after lots of incremental testing I got up to 180Mhz, giving me 2012-2025Mhhz in game. running at 70% fan speed and 70-80% GPU util giving me 70 degrees C GPU temp... That's quite a lot of extra "eye candy" ... BitMaster Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 I dont think that you saw any mayor increase in 3D when you have been CPU limited before and after overclocking. When your GPU runs at anything below 98-100% load in uncapped fps mode you are CPU limited. You can, however, crank up your LOD until the GPU gets close to 100%. That would yield some eyecandy with the same CPU performance..but also at the cost of more heat. Measure your fps average before and after overclock. I doubt they differ if the GPU doesnt hit close to 100%. In the end, what counts is perception and immersion. If you think it is better, IT IS better  Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Sapphire Nitro+ 7800XT - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus XG27ACG QHD 180Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X
speed-of-heat Posted March 9, 2019 Author Posted March 9, 2019 (edited) Whilst I didn't gain FPS I'm in VR and it gave me a lot more consistent frame rate, with more eye candy turned on.. you will note I didn't say I got extra FPS Edited March 9, 2019 by speed-of-heat SYSTEM SPECS: Hardware AMD 9800X3D, 64Gb RAM, 4090 FE, Virpil T50CM3 Throttle, WinWIng Orion 2 & F-16EX + MFG Crosswinds V2, Varjo Aero SOFTWARE: Microsoft Windows 11, VoiceAttack & VAICOM PRO YOUTUBE CHANNEL: @speed-of-heat
