boet Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 Hey Guys, New to the forum, not so much DCS. I've been playing on an off over the last year. However, with new game developments, such as DCS 2.5, the F/A-18C, and the soon to be released, iconic F-14, and the new RTX cards, I've been spending more time in DCS. Which brings me onto my reason for this post... I recently upgraded my computer to the below, inlcuding an RTX 2080 which my wife gave to me for my bday. "Asus ROG Swift 2K 144MHz, Asus Z390-F mobo, i7-9700K, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 500GB SSD, EVGA RTX 2080, EVGA 750 G+, WIN10 Prof" My FPS avg about 40 - 45, so would I see an increase if I were to upgrade to the 2080ti ? I'm reading in various forums it's not worth it if on a 2k monitor? Do you guys have the 2080ti playing on a 2k panel, what sort of FPS you getting? For obvious reasons, turning off the below increases my fps by 20%, however as mentioned above, I want all the eye-candy this sim can throw at me, it's just such a beautiful sim (even my wife thought the Heatblur F-14 release trailer was real!), so ideally I would like to keep it enabled. MSAA 2x SSAA 1.5 Oh, btw, I've increased the GPU via Control Panel to Max Power Perforamnce. /Boet
FraserNZL Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 My man you should be getting way better frames than that. I run a strix 1070, 8700k, z370f mobo and just upgraded to 32gb ram and I'm mostly getting 100fps on 2560x1440p. I'd say get into a bit of tweaking on the Nvidia control panel first before ya start dishing out MOAR cash. There is a few great posts around here and YouTube to help you out. I'm not that computer savvy but I got there. I also find hitting left alt enter helps too by making DCS run at full screen. If there is any other way I can help you please ask or I'll let you know k.
Fab Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 If iys VR, your getting a normal fps count. Chrinik Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 Reduce Civilian traffic, reduce tree distance a bit, chimneysmoke density, resolution of cockpit displays. Oh and SSAA...Super Sampling AA increases your render resolution by this amount, then scales it back. 1.5 means you are effectively rendering in 3975x2160p, so slightly more than 4K, and I don't feel like it's worth it. I got MSAA running at 4 times. Heatblur I also turned off, the effect itself is nice to look at, but it blurs the damn HUD for some reason when you are taxiing behind a buddy, and it just shatters immersion alot. Motion Blur and Depth of Field are similarily artificial looking effects and so I turned them off. All of these bog down your performance alot without actually looking all that much better when maxed out (IMHO). I run a 1080ti, which should be roughly on par with a 2080, on a 3440x1440p monitor, and I run 75-100 fps... DCS still looks awesome, but a fluid experience looks more awesome than a stuttery mess with some extra little bit of eye candy. Especially if you have a 144hz monitor, I would use that... delevero Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 If you play in VR then the fps is okay.. I asume dcs fps counter in vr only calculate on 1 eye = 45fps But if you play with ordinary monitor or monitors then 45 is way to low for your system.. I suspect either you did not install the right driver, or you are having an overheating issue of your cpu. Personaly i get +100fps when i play with monitor 2560x1440p 144hz. and 45-50fps in vr. ( VR in dcs will be further developed and especially texture on the ground effect vr allot.. if not mistaken wags spoke a bit about this in his latest podcast that they will optimize the game more for vr ). I have a ryzen 2800x 8 cores 16 threats, 16gb ram 2080rtx and m2 drives. My game run really good. VR is pimax 4k. ( ps. in vr turn off vsync, and in general look at some of the vr tutorials with tips and tricks. )
boet Posted March 13, 2019 Author Posted March 13, 2019 Not in VR. Thanks guys, will give these a go tonight, and post my settings/results. An extra £400 for an upgrade to my 2080, is a bit eye watering. Rather use the money for the F-14 with some change ;)
tstorey37 Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 Tweaking everything may help you out a lot, but if you are really into DCS instead of upgrading to the 2080Ti, I'd look at getting a 144Hz monitor. Surprisingly your monitor can bottleneck a high-end video card.
etherbattx Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 your monitor can bottleneck a high-end video card. only if you turn on v-sync
Infiltrator Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 I don't know why people are such shitty FPS with their builds. I'm getting 60+ FPS 3440x1440 @ 120Hz with my current build with everything maxxed out. Ironhide Posted March 14, 2019 Posted March 14, 2019 After taking all the comments on board, I can safely say my fps averages around 90 - 100 now. I will still keep tweaking and look at the nvidia CP side. Thanks all! Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk
