Maybe I'm just being blind here but I can't find a section in the manual that explains the VDI symbology in detail in various modes. I'd expect some labelled pictures but all I see are various references to "VDI will show you this" but not explaining how to read it.

 

E.g. in attack mode, it's wonderfully minimalist (which I'm a huge fan of) but I'm struggling to guess what the tape actually means etc.

 

Also is it supposed to have guidance symbology in cruise mode or ILS symbology in landing mode? Are there switches I need to flip?

Well I figured out the dark circle in AA/Mode is where you need to shoot the missile into :)

Its the Chapter "vertical display indicator group" in the NATOPS.

Page 22-1 or 731 for the PDF page.
