Brit_Radar_Dude Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 LOL - the AGM-65 Maverick missiles are not telepathic, they can't tell what you want them to lock onto! Joking aside A10FAN, the Mav locks onto contrast, thus it can easily lock onto an object near to the one you actually want it to lock onto. If your target is in amongst other things that might lock, maybe you can approach the target from a different direction to get a better view of it? A skill you will slowly develop is to recognise the shape of targets (especially AA threats) in your MFD. Depending on how you look around with your set-up (you might use Hat switch or maybe have a TrackIR) you might set a snapview to make the MFD as big as possible to help. Look at outlines of threats like Shilka,Strela,Osa in the Encyclopedia. Put one in a mission and lock it up with both types of Mav. Learn to recognise the distinguishing features, eg Shilka - radar dish sticks up and is lighter colour, chassis looks lower and "fatter" than other vehicles. Hope this helps.... A10FAN Posted August 24, 2007 Author Posted August 24, 2007 Thx for the reply i see your point when ever i try to lockon to a shilka ect.. it will jump to a building and i have to unlock and try it again from another angle i guess i thought it would automatically lockon to the heat signature. i use my mouse to pan around and zoom onto targets guess ill practice alot more and figure it out thx again http://www.youtube.com/user/TheA10FAN?feature=mhum coolermaster HAF full tower Intell i7 960 bloomfield 4.0Ghz Evga X58 Classified 3 mobo Corsair H-60 Hydro Cooler Corsair Dominator GT 12g DDR3 1866 ram Corsair Pro Series AX1200w ps OCZ Vertex3 SSD 240g Evga GTX590 Vid Card Creative X-FI Titanium soundcard TM Warthog Hotas

This is much easier than locking directly on the target. And do you know you can move the cursor even after you locked a wrong object? zaelu Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 Keep in mind that the logic behind this target aquisition mechanism is not completly modeled in LOMAC. I mean try to understand that there is no "seeker" that realy analize your mini black and white picture on that tiny screen. There is most probable no rutine in the Lock On engine that will actualy analize the exact picture (made from textured poligons) you get from the game feed. Imagine you have your "objects" poping setup in graphics.cfg set too low for the MFD screen... and you don't see much :D ; you don't have such a thing (a graphic.cfg) in a real A-10. So... sometimes although you don't see anything near your target to have a close match in contrast as your target, it still could exist. Maybe a tree or a building or something.
