Boagord Posted March 26, 2019 Posted March 26, 2019 (edited) In my cockpit, when I am above the sea, the radar altimeter point an altitude under the "F2" altitude. Is it normal? With a good QFE set, my pneumatic altimeter works well. Edited April 13, 2019 by IronMike
drPhibes Posted March 26, 2019 Posted March 26, 2019 Yes, it is normal. The pulsed radar altimeter in the F-14 is apparently more sensitive to a difference in the reflection coefficient of water vs. ground compared to a normal FMCW radar altimeter.
Boagord Posted March 26, 2019 Author Posted March 26, 2019 So it's not a bug but a feature! If I understand, Case 1 above the sea should be done with the pneumatic altimer. Envoyé de mon SM-G930F en utilisant Tapatalk

TLTeo Posted March 26, 2019 Posted March 26, 2019 Ha! I've been adjusting my pneumatic altimeter to match the radar altimeter, and my altitude always feels off during case 1 landings. This explains why!
