E6600 Core 2 duo when i overclock it...

Recommended Posts

I currently have my E6700 core2duo Overclocked to 3.75Ghz (default is 2.66Ghz), but I am using one of these:

http://www.ultraproducts.com/product_details.php?cPath=17&pPath=571&productID=571 on it which is a TEC Chiller. Keeps my cpu very cold for OCing.

On another system I am using this product:

http://www.xoxide.com/coolit-systems-tec-water-cooling.html

and it works very well also.

The 1st one above works the best as you get no condensation in its cooling process, the lower one works really well, but you do get condensation on the cooling block (over the cpu) and the lines.

Both work great, and allow you to get higher overclocks.

yea man but i dunno... i really think the ram is fine. when i get home i'll do a memtest on my ram without overclocking to see if there is a problem. if not i'm guessing its the Dll

Try it this way then... boot into safe mode and run Prime, HCI memtest, Orthos... whatever else you like (OCCT is a good one) ... to get the ATI card out of the equation. (Edit...My memory is failing me... I dont think you can do some of those programs in safe mode)

Overall my hunch is you have two problems going on... Ati.dll messing with your gaming and secondly, a possible RAM problem. RAM because you're sitting windows doing nothing graphics related and failing stress tests like Prime and Memtest within seconds. You are also getting odd Firefox and windows behavior....

I could very well be wrong though.

Talon... he shouldn't have temp problems he's got a OCZ vindicator cooler and maxes out at 55c. Northbridge and soutbridge I do not know about, thats one of the reasons I said put those on the middle values (so you know what kind of heat you're putting to them.)

You'll get it solved m8.... in the end you're learning enough about computer components to get you through problems for years to come.

Excellent.... I was always a proponent of going higher (not insanely high) out of the gate with my overclock voltages and then backing down. I think it's because im too impatient to creep up, I'd rather get establish and then back it down.

Hardware is so weird sometimes though

Let us know if anything changes

  • 2 weeks later...

well after a period of playing Armed Assault for 2 hours i had a blue screen but it was not ATI or anything that i can recognize so i took the PCI express off 105 and back to 100 and it has not done that since :D perfect now :P must have had a conflict with the higher PCI frequency?

well standard PCI-E frequency is 100MHz and anything over that is overclocking (same as for PCI buss of 33MHz). I have mine to 100MHz as well. Just keep an eye on your temperatures and also actual voltages. If the PSU is not of good quality voltages can drop/flactuate a bit under heavy load which is not good and can be very likely cause of system instability.

No longer active in DCS...

well i never got the BSOD message ever again when i went back to 100 for PCIE frequency... but guys i have found out some really wierd stuff... when i overclock it helps out a little in lockon like maybe 10 frames which is great! but the only other game that i have that it helps out on is ArmA... any other game the performance decreases!! like i play BF2 and BF2142 and with the speeds to 3ghtz on the processor i was seeing frames at 50... Still good but here is the interesting part. (i had all settings on high BTW :D ) but when i went back to stock i saw my frames go up to 80 and above all the time with no change in video settings!!! same for BF2142!?!? overclocked i was at 45 frames and at stock i was at 60 and up always and in the Titan i was seeing 80 :P totaly wierd... Washout my CO says that alot of games dont like overclocking and its totaly true i just didnt think it would show as much.. and another wierd thing in those 2 games the graphics when overclocked are "Fuzzier"

has anyone else found this out?
