Mettius Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 I like my warthog better than the cougar it replaced, but I have a question when it comes to helicopter sims. I've gotten into helo sim flying lately, but I'm having a heck of a time with it. I saw a few forum posts about getting rid of/reducing the spring tension in the warthog. Question I have is, what does a real helicopter stick feel like? Does it return to center like the warthog? Flop around like something with no springs, or what? I'm wondering if the trouble I'm having keeping is relating to constantly fighting the sprint tension?
FragBum Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 (edited) Limited experience here but there is no concept of return to "center" and there is just slight resistance to movement of the cyclic. R44 cyclic is just so light to move. Also if you roll or pitch the aircraft and return the cyclic to neutral (center) the aircraft wont correct it self you have to do that yourself by applying the necessary correction. There seems to be a bug in the autopilot cyclic control of the Mi-8, cyclic seems normal iwith AP off. I started off modding a Logitech 3D Pro here This works very well for helicopters. Same applies to torque pedals there is not center detent. <edit> With a center detent you need to trim so the center position of the joystick coincides with "correct" input. The other thing is the Warthog extensions to make the throw longer. Again, makes a huge difference. As for real life, I only flew a Huey simulator (in the Army) once. If I recall, it didn't flop around, but there was no resistance, or very little of it. However, it did stay where it was if you let it go for a sec. The Komodo cyclic work similarly. But it was discussed extensively (with IRL pilots chiming in) over in Belsimtek/Huey threads. smallberries Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 Regreasing the WH also helps, and polishing the plastic to remove seams and rough spots. Ultimately, for me, the answer was getting a VKB base to throw my WH grip onto, but of course that's more $$, but for me it was worth it.

Quadg Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 I took the main spring out of my warthog 2 years ago and have not wanted it back :) My Rig: AM5 7950X, 32GB DDR5 6000, M2 SSD, EVGA 1080 Superclocked, Warthog Throttle and Stick, MFG Crosswinds, Oculus Rift.
