TheGuyWAithARock
Hi All! TLDR: DCS Booted around 4 seconds faster with 3 SSD's in RAID, and got into multiplayer 7 seconds faster. Full: Just setup 3 SSD's with Raid 0 for the fun of it so decided to see how DCS 2.5 responds to having around 1.6GB of Read speed!! Please note that these tests are not scientific in any way and just consisted of me clicking the stopwatch, so give some room for human error. The first test to load screen is the time it takes to boot into the menu of DCS. The second test is how long it takes to boot into multiplayer (Aerobatics Online) from the multiplayer menu to when all textures load into the F14. Results: 1 SSD: Menu: 21.75 seconds To Multiplayer: 1.04 minutes 3 SSD: Menu: 16.22 seconds To Multiplayer: 57 seconds Load time with a single 1TB Samsung SSD: Load time with 3 SSD's in Raid 0: Proof 1 SSD: Proof 3 SSD: Happy Flying! _e10
Now lets try with a ramdisk or at least a big ram cache :smilewink:
Aluminum Donkey
I run mine from an NVMe drive, good for about 3.2 GB/sec. Yes, it's faster than a SATA SSD. No, it's not 6 times faster!! AD Kit: B550 Aorus Elite AX V2, Ryzen 7 5800X w/ Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE, 2 x 16GB Kingston Fury DDR4 @3600MHz C16, Gigabyte RTX 3070 Windforce 8GB, EVGA SuperNova 750 G2 PSU, HP Omen 32" 2560x1440, Thrustmaster Cougar HOTAS fitted with Leo Bodnar's BU0836A controller. --Flying is the art of throwing yourself at the ground, and having all the rules and regulations get in the way! etherbattx
2.5 Drive Load In Tests (1 SSD vs 3 SSD Raid) if you make your living at $80/hr (166,000/yr), a savings of 7 seconds means a reduction in downtime of 15.6 cents! sign me up Edited April 1, 2019 by etherbattx
ApoNOOB
Try on the MP servers with the huge missions. :)
FragBum
Similar load time using SATA SSD 22 seconds first run and 13 seconds there after, there is a lot of CPU activity going on so SSD/HDD is only part of the equation. I see also the amount of VRAM getting data loaded is about 7GB for SP and 10.something for MP and that doesn't get loaded direct from SSD to VRAM. Still interesting test. Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment. Gazelle Mini-gun version is endorphins with rotors. See above.
