Hi all,

I have questions about the datalink and TID contacts.

It seems to me I have sometimes been able to hook datalink contacts on the TID, to get precise range, altitude and bearing to the contact. But I can't reproduce it. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

Should we be able to hook datalink contacts? (no radar track, only bottom of HAFU) and under which conditions?

Playing MP in RIO I also had cases where I had enemy contacts, both on the datalink and on the radar in TWS. But it seemed like the top and bottom parts of the HAFU were significantly offset. What could cause this ? INS drifting or bad INS alignement ?

Thank you

My understanding is that you can only hook datalink targets when in one of the TWS modes. I'm assuming this is correct, since ownship targets can only be hooked in TWS modes, but it sure would be useful to hook DL targets in any mode.

It’s actually a bug... you should be able to hook a datalink contact in any mode. HB is aware...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the F-14 able to fire an AIM-54 off of Datalink targets without it's own radar on? I don't believe this is currently implemented if that was a possibility. Could get pretty ridiculous when it DOES become available though!

Hmmm.... that definitely sucks. I thought I read somewhere that Cats, when facing off in Redflag stuff against the Europeans, would fly in two pairs, one high and one low. One, usually the low, would lock up while the other pair "fired". Guess I'll need to do more digging on where that came from...

No, what they’d do is the high guys would F/F their targets to the low guys, basically act like an AWACS. The low guys would let the enemy pass overhead, then come up behind them, switch their radars on and engage the bandits from behind. It was a method used to jump the enemy from behind.
