HELP: Dreaded Drogue Basket of Fail

ok.... OK.

I have bin trying this for HOURS.

like... not "exaggerated hours", I've literally clocked in around 20 hours total flight time trying my FUC*in damnedest to catch this damned drogue basket!

I'm 100% convinced it is bugged. i have tried technique under the sun and have no PERFECTED my formation flying skills.

I've even resorted to recording my attempts to see if i'm just off by a bit....nope. DEAD ON CENTER with the probe into the very CENTER of the basket.

If this was real life i ABSOLUTELY would nail this first try with the amount of HOTAS control i have honed doing this.

I've checked ALL the replays, i'm coming in perfectly straight, directly into the thing with ZERO, and i DO mean absolutely zero wobble. no PIO what so ever....... basket simply clips right on through the probe, and into my aircraft.

 

Please tell me there is going to be a fix for this incoming soon.

Did you make the "ready to pre-contact" call to the tanker prior to trying to hook the basket? After the first request to refuel call, you have to contact the tanker a second time once you're in the pre-contact position. The tanker will clear you to refuel, then you can take a stab at the basket. I'm only suggesting this since it sounds like you're plugging the basket, but the probe is going straight through it.

I had the exact same thing happening the first time I tried the aerial refueling mission and couldn’t understand what I was doing wrong. Next time I loaded DCS and tried again everything worked fine and it’s been fine since. Still not sure what the cause was.

Your problem seems to be, that you didn't get a "cleared contact" from the tanker before approaching the drogue.

So, cause DCS is always bugged as hell, the drouge is deployed only optical, not technical. Thats why you are clipping trough. They did that since a few patches, before the drogue only got deployed on call.

 

Find your tanker, fly in echelon formation with it.

Call him "intent to refuel" and receive his answer.

Move your position to behind him, about 100 fett behind the drouge.

Call him "ready pre contact" and wait to receive his "cleared contact"

If you receive a "return pre-contact" you need to fly more exactley, or also meaybe nearer, behind the drogue.

While it might be the Ready Pre-contact issue described above, I would still like to add that the basket's collision detection leaves much to be desired.
