msalama Posted April 27, 2019 Posted April 27, 2019 Or is it just Wintendo doing its thread management? EDIT: DCS is the red graph of course. The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.
Worrazen Posted April 30, 2019 Posted April 30, 2019 (edited) The totals give it away tho, it had to be above 50% to use more than 2 cores ... well a picture won't work here, see if it goes over 35% through the session (as it uses 1.4 to 1.6 cores in practice) There may be reasons for scheduling the threads but I didn't continue that deeply later on and I can't say for sure, it could depend on the CPU, but in essence it is possible to PREFER a CPU CORE in software but that's hardcoded, if possible it would be cool if DCS supported core-binding officially in the options without need to use special software and fiddling with affinity, that way people with different CPUs/OS could test out and find their best option. For example if all DCS players would test, it could be that the bouncing of threads may improve perf by 1-3% in most cases, which makes the whole thing a non-issue as much as it is confusing as hell, for it's benefits it sure makes the graphs look like a total joke. I think there should be like 10 different kinds of graphs for their purpose, for these behaviors, like if threads bounce around like crazy you wouldn't even display it on the standard one, but on a proper one, segregated by bounce rate, or something, can't think of right now, but I'll do some cooking on this idea and maybe even show a real demo. FragBum Posted April 30, 2019 Posted April 30, 2019 I've been seeing increased DCS CPU usage for some time now, I doubt it's DCS ED would have made noises about such improvements. However the increases seemed to occur with a Windows update and Rift update late last year. Prior to that I was lucky to see DCS use around 16% plus CPU utilisation, now it averages around 30% with peaks to low 40s% with overall higher core utilisation. Yes it was one core doing all the work and the rest basically did sod all, now it looks very active. Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment. Gazelle Mini-gun version is endorphins with rotors. See above. Currently rolling with a Asus Z390 Prime, 9600K, 32GB RAM, SSD, 2080Ti and Windows 10Pro, Rift CV1. bu0836x and Scratch Built Pedals, Collective and Cyclic.
Eldur Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 I just recently noticed that my CPU wouldn't run at it's boost clock with DCS on, which it should in case DCS was just using one or two cores. Since I never really bothered to check this regularly, but am pretty sure it went at 3.8 instead of just 3.4 with DCS up and running, this actually may be the reason for the fps drops some people, me included, have noticed lately.
