KTFBGB Posted April 30, 2019 Posted April 30, 2019 Hey everyone, I’ve tried searching several different ways and I can’t find an answer. Sorry if this is has been answered somewhere else. I can’t find it. With the FC3 aircraft, my Harrier, and my A-10, rudder can be quite severe if you aren’t careful. With the Hornet full rudder barely affects the plane at all. Like its maybe 5% of the other aircraft. Is this just how the rudder works with the hornet? It feels like the plane is trying to prevent you from using much rudder. My axis for the rudder has no dead zone and no curve. Thanks.
probad Posted April 30, 2019 Posted April 30, 2019 (edited) welcome to fly by wire, where you're only voting for rudder command and the computer decides when and how much to give you. you're not going to have much of any rudder authority in flight regimes where other inputs are better (ex. bank and pull vs rudder during level flight) try dropping your airspeed into the dumpster and then commanding rudder at higher alpha. you'll find the rudder suddenly comes alive. M1Combat Posted April 30, 2019 Posted April 30, 2019 "try dropping your airspeed into the dumpster and then commanding rudder at higher alpha. you'll find the rudder suddenly comes alive." Bingo. The rudder is SUPER useful in the Hornet when one on one :) and BOTH pilots are slower than optimal. KTFBGB Posted April 30, 2019 Author Posted April 30, 2019 Ok, that’s kind of what I figured. I wanted to make sure it wasn’t me though. I did jump on really fast and check out the rudder at slower speeds. Just like you guys said, it came “alive”. Thanks fellas!
