What exactly does it do? TACAN switch gives steering information to the TACAN station, DEST gives steering info to the waypoint, AWL/PCD gives steering info to...?

 

As far as I see in the case 1 carrier recovery quick mission, the AWL/PCD switch does not change the HSD at all compared to using TACAN. Only difference I get is the ILS glideslope and localizer bars

Well I know it prevents you from changing the course on the HSD, this is probably a bug however, or you are meant to have course set while in tacan before switching to AWL.

But what's the switch actually do?

As far as under the hood stuff? Not a clue.

I just know, like you said, it’s required to get ILS steering bars on ADI and HUD.

As for the HSD it seems to just mirror the tacan.

on a similar note whats the difference between using ILS and ACL switches for the HUD and VDI on the right vertical console?
