Howdy folks, trying to get some final questions answered on my delve into VR.

Talked to the USA PImax folks today, very helpful.

There were some questions they were not sure of the answer, hope you can help.

Ok, I know Pimax has a built in microphone. I plan on using my Pimax with my 5.1 surround external speakers.

My concern will be while playing the game DCS etal, will the mic be picking up the extraneous sounds, possibly causing some un wanted actions?

I want ot use voice attack for a lot of control, of sim. Will I be able to use the mic within game with my external speakers OK?

If not, is there a way I could possibly reduce the mic sensitivity to make it work.

I don't want to use headphones, earbuds etc if I can avoid it.

Using Zoom VR, will I still need that parallel setting in Pimax, or is that fixed. Do I understand correctly, that the double vission occurs with only Zoom VR. If I don't zoom, then parallel not needed in PiTool?

Finally, I noticed alot of vids were it looks like folks are sitting way back from the panel. Is that the vid, or a preference. I fly for a living, so I want to adjust my view to reflect actually sititng in the seat. DO I need to adjust something in DCS etc to accomplish...or simply move my chair closer?

These were my unanswered questions for the moment. Thank for any assitance.

PS I beleive my specs will be OK for the Pimax: RTX 2080ti,32GB G.Skill Ram 3200mhz, Aorus X299 Ultra Gaming MB, i9 9900x cPU. Non OC at this time, jsut install them.

Best,

David

I can't help you with the mic question yet because I haven't tried it. I do have VoiceAttack/Viacomm, but I haven't had time to set it up. I didn't even know that P5K+ had a built in mic. LOL.

For the VR Zoom, yes, when you zoom in, things get cross-eyed. But under normal conditions, it's fine.

Also, don't forget that you need at least one lighthouse sensor to track 6DOF. It has a built in gyro for 3DOF, but for DCS, you want 6DOF. I picked up one sensor (gen 1 is fine) for about $70 USD on ebay. I'm a KS backer and I'm supposed to get two controllers and 2 tracking stations, but they are shipping yet.

Also, I'm getting Miles' PointControl. In the parent INPUT/OUTPUT thread, you'll see a thread called "New VR Pointing Device'

As for the view, you can move the chair closer, or you can adjust the starting view when you get into the aircraft.

  • RCTRL + RSHFT + KP4,2,6,8 = Moves your eyepoint L,D,R,U respectively
  • RCTRL + RSHFT + KP*, KPMinus = Moves your eyepoint fore and aft
  • RALT + KP0 = Saves your current eyepoint position
  • KP5 Recenters your view (Bind to a joystick or button box button with Joy2Key or other remapper to make centering simple)

You have a better CPU than me, so you should be fine. And keep in mind that Eagle Dynamics is getting ready ("soon") to release a VR update that will boost performance by up t 50%. That can't come soon enough!!!!

You can also use this mod which adds working zoom options for Pimax - good for spotting things outside your plane:

Huh, didn't know it fixed the Zoom.

The Pimax got two microphones, which a pretty good in my opinion. I´m using stereo studio speaker and a powerful subwoofer. Voice Attack did grap external sounds and misinterpreted as voice commands. Sometimes the view suddenly switched into an external camera. Mostly I use voice attack for the comm-menu respectively F1 - F12 commands.

By false voice recognition of the environmental sound, voice attack interpreted an external sound as "F2" and switched to the external camera suddenly. Solved it by giving voice attack a more phonetical complex input ("F second"), since then it didn´t switched to external camera by misinterpreted voice command.

The position in the cockpit in VR could be easily adjusted: simply move your head a bit forward or up or backward than your usual position and press VR recenter, then lean back in your flying chair again into the regular position. Meanwhile I got used to adjust the position in the VR cockpit this way.
