  1. For people who want plug and play and don't want to spend a single minute tweaking things .. then Pimax would not be a good choice. But for the sake of immersion, I think the tweaking is worth it. People dismiss Pimax too easily, while many who use it say they love it. (It is also true though that some didn't like their Pimax.) My recommendation is to find a chance to try it and see if you like it. Maybe meet a friend who has one. But actually, right now my recommendation is to wait for the 8K-X if you want the best (resolution PLUS fov). However, it could be a while and the price will probably be expensive. So a 5K+ now or an Index seem to be good choices.
  2. SweViver has just released this awesome video that shows the difference between wide FOV VR and normal VR: (DCS is at 7:41) He is using wide angle cameras to capture through the lenses videos of the whole field of view available in Pimax 5K+ compared to Oculus Rift. As you can see, there is a really big difference! This is why I've been blown away with DCS in my Pimax 8K .. the immersion factor is so high. DCS really is an awesome experience in Pimax HMDs. It is true some newer HMDs might have a bit of edge in terms of clarity .. but for FOV Pimax is definitely still the best. I hope other manufacturers begin doing wide FOV soon. For now I am waiting for the Pimax 8K-X which will be high res plus wide FOV.
  3. I just got the chance to try this latest version. The effects all seem to render properly now which is great! However, one thing that I don't like in this new version is how the HUD is zoomed. In the previous version I tried (1.4), I could use zoom to line up bombs and gun fire to ground targets using the HUD ( F/A-18 ) However, in this version, the targeting reticle on the HUD doesn't 'stay in place' and it moves opposite to the head movement .. so it isn't possible to line up shots. It would be wonderful if the HUD itself doesn't get zoomed so you get fine targetting. EDIT: Just tried version 1.6 and 1.4 again and the HUD behavior in 1.4 version is different than 1.6 and 1.8. In 1.4 the HUD sticks to the correct position, so lining up gun shots is possible, while 1.6 and 1.8 it is not. However gun effects are rendered wrong in 1.4. At this point I prefer 1.4 as it allows lining up bombs. 1.4 HUD still gets zoomed though but its position is correct. It would be great if the HUD is locked to the correct position and isn't zoomed, which would allow to finely aim/line up shots.
  4. You can also use this mod which adds working zoom options for Pimax - good for spotting things outside your plane: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=239888
  5. I tried the mod with Pimax 8K. Adjusting the zoom convergence and saving it went fine. To remove the masks I tried setting to 0.1 as instructions, but they were still there for some reason, so I just edited the mask jpg files instead. I was able to use my throttle software to bind the slider on my throttle so that as I slide it further it toggles to higher zoom. So the end result is very nice as I can quickly zoom to different levels. I have tried using it for bombing tanks from F/A-18C and it is wonderful! ... I can finally see what I am bombing. However, there are some strange graphics rendering such as the tracers when firing the gun and explosions seem 'stuck' to the screen. I am not using Kegetys mod by the way. I did download the latest version from the post above this one. (I did try Kegetys mod afterwards, but got black trees ... I didn't follow all installation instructions it seems .. might try it again later.)
  6. I haven't tried the mod, but will let you know my impressions after I get the chance. However, one thing I would like to suggest to add (if possible) is to add an AXIS for zooming and allow set max zoom for it. Then I could assign a slider on my throttle to zoom level which I imagine would be very convenient to use.
  7. As a data point, I am really satisfied with my Pimax 8K. However, for people who really don't like tinkering, then maybe something else that is more 'plug and play' is a better fit. 8. Completely agree. VR users have a big disadvantage. Also, I want to suggest that maybe VR zoom level can be put onto an axis, so for example I could put it on the slider on my throttle. As it is right now you have to press and wait a bit and then wait a bit again for it to zoom out.
  9. Very interesting, thank you for sharing. I will try that out. Also, I wonder if you (or anyone else) has tried: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=239102 And if it makes a difference? I've tried it but not really sure.
  10. At this point in time, if money is not an issue and you have a 2080ti, I would say Pimax 5K+ or 8K is the best available on the market due to FOV/resolution. XTAL is also an option if you can pay 4,900 EUR. HP Reverb and Valve Index are coming very soon so best choice would be to wait a month or two for the reviews of those. I wouldn't recommend the Rift at this point because low resolution makes it hard to see anything. At least wait for the Rift S.
  11. Yes, it is possible and I am using it. This vid shows how to do it for normal 2D .. but in VR it is the same, just put your head physically where you want it to be.
  12. Wow, nice to see my video getting posted and discussed here! Here is another, longer but similar video in which I fumbled with the focus a bit: And here is the link to my full review of the Pimax 8K (which was also linked in the first post): https://forum.pimaxvr.com/t/updated-with-new-5k-impressions-pimax-8k-review-through-the-lens-videos-and-comparison-images/18570 I also added thoughts about 5K+ vs 8K to the review. I tried many different games while writing the above review, but when I tried DCS I was really stunned. It looks really amazing and immersion level is wonderful. So much so that I've bought the F/A 18 and going through the training missions now. In summary 5K+ vs 8K I like the 8K because the SDE is less visible. However 5K+ also has its positives and it is less expensive too. I tried a Vive recently after playing only my 8K for 2 weeks. It was like looking through a tube ... both vertical and horizontal FOV felt so small.
  13. Hi, new Pimax + DCS user here. Hoping VR Zoom for Pimax gets fixed so it doesn't need parallel projections. I thought I wouldn't need it at first as I use snap views for getting a closer look at the instruments ... but VR zoom is useful for getting a closer look at everything outside the plane. Now I just close one eye when I use it LOL.
