Hello chaps :)

Was wondering if someone with one of those cards would be willing to share their settings (a screenshot paints a thousand words ;) )?

I have a new 2060 and the reviews all put the performance alongside the 1070Ti, so any settings that work well enough with either of those cards would be nice, thanks.

I'm so used to sitting at the bottom end of everything with my 970 and 1060.

This is what I was running with my rift, lots of discussion there. I had a 980m so you should be a bit better off with a 2060. As a base PD1.2, MSAAx2, try shadows on/off.

Just reporting back in the interim - I'm very pleased with the results of my testing so far. I never imagined it would be this much of a difference.

Firstly, I've uninstalled Kegety's VR performance mod - the sim looks better without it and still performs very well.

With that mod I was getting the 90fps of ATW and without it I'm getting 45fps with ASW at lower altitudes - but it's solid (and often jumps up) and easily good enough.

Increased the PD to 1.3 (from 1.0) and switched on shadows using Flat only - which has always been good enough for me - increased the cockpit displays to 1024, the MSAA to x2 and the AF to x4.

This is with 0 grass/clutter and trees, though. That doesn't get rid of all the trees, but there are a lot less. This will be the next thing I'll be increasing in tests.

Settings screen attached.

If anyone else is considering the RTX 2060 I'd say go for it. At the small price increase over a 1060, it's good value and much better performance.

I kinda go back and forth on MSAA. MSAAx2/PD1.2 looks about the same as MSAAx0/PD1.4 and I think the latter is a tad quicker. I'd be willing to trade MSAA for some trees (66% works well with med vis range).

That said, way to go man. The 2060 may be the new el cheapo king! If that sucka can drive a Rift S --and I'll bet it can -- you have a winner bro!

I've been really impressed with this card - think it was a very worthy upgrade to my 1060/6.

Performance has been excellent and it hasn't missed a beat - so for the first time in years, I'm going to overlcock it. I normally just overclock the CPU, RAM etc and haven't overclocked a graphics card since my X800 days (never felt the need to).

I'm reading many reports of near 1080 performance from the 2060, quite comfortably, and my Index is not too far away. Yesterday I tested the ray tracing with the new Quake II RTX. It was quite impressive in clarity, but the gamma levels were a bit of a nightmare (light areas way too light and dark areas way too dark - a bit like DCS 2!) but there were many different options on the ray-tracing, some of which I just didn't understand what they were for - though nVidia have done this mod to show off the ray-tracing, I've been unable to find any kind of guide for it (in that game).

I can see ray-tracing being very useful for DCS World, but of course, it's up to ED to decide if it's something they'd like to implement and whether it's worth it. I don't even know if it's here to stay or not.

Still, this card has left me smiling - often!

PS - I've been able to increase many VR games' graphics settings (eg In Death to maximum and PD increase to 2.0 from minimum on my 1060) and the difference has been night and day - not felt sick once with the 2060, where I used to in several games with the 970 and 1060 due to the res/clarity) it worked well with the Rift-S as well. No need to reduce any of the settings I'd had with CV1 (so they weren't high enough, lol).

The OC Scanner gave me an extra 83MHz on the gpu clock. Nothing earth-shaking, but certainly more than some I've seen. I'll keep plugging away and then see what it gives me in sim.

Had another go after my recent reinstall, and as my Index is due today, it needed to be done.

Unfortunately, we are suffering warm and humid times in Europe, so this is the limiting factor with overclocking right now - I'll probably have another go later in the year.

Still worth it, though...

If you're curious or, like me, haven't overclocked a video card in a very long time, the MSI website has all the info you need:

They also tell you the best way to do it manually, if you want to eek more out of your GPU.
