Hunter Joker Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 Hi, yesterday during a mission with my squadron we was shot down by a MiG-31 with an IR R-3 missile from about 45NM of range...and with a starting speed of mach 4.5 Two launches...from about 48 and 45 nm, all with a starting speed over 4 mach... How could this be possible? 3 times the reange of a R-27 ET and at least 200% the speed....unbeliveable. It's not the first time that this happen so I decide to report here. Attached there's the Tacview file, the first launch is about at 1h from the start...the second follow.Tacview-20190522-220828-DCS-=MDS=_Standard_Mix_AA-AG_v0.4.7.Caucasus.zip.rar https://www.youtube.com/user/garaganotube
cosmicdoubloon Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 Nothing unusual there, the R-33 is roughly equivalent to the AIM-54 in terms of range. That looked like a pretty typical R-33 engagement to me, what's the issue you think you're having? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Furia Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 I cannot see the tacview from my Ipad but he is talking about an IR R-3 (similar to a Sidewinder) and not of an R-33. If it was an R-3 then the behaviour is strange [sIGPIC]http://menorca.infotelecom.es/~raulurbina/ESA/banner_furia.png[/sIGPIC]
cosmicdoubloon Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 I looked at the tacview, its 100% the R-33 that's being fired. The only other missile fired was an R-40R but that was at a much closer range. That is a normal engagement as far as I'm concerned [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
