Indeed it does. Many thanks for your efforts and the detailed post. BTW gamma can be changed in-mission from the options (v. useful for testing).

I really like my rift S, much clearer. But I did my first night flight and was disappointed. The black sky is a grey sky, you can't see the stars. Its hard to see cockpit controls. I turned gamma down to 1.0, no improvement. I erased the spud directory like you could do with the old rift to make night black, no effect.

Thanks for sharing this, as I was wondering about it as well.

That said, when I changed from the CV1 to the Odyssey+ with its AMOLED displays, I was blown away by the overall vivid colors, and more specifically, the much darker nights in comparison to the CV1 in DCS.

Kinda sad to know that Oculus ran with LCD displays instead now.

I just did a test with the Night Landing A-10C mission and reset gamma to 1.0.

Well it's still not what I would describe as inky black, but it was much darker than before for me. I did not notice any stars but the moon had a real nice shimmer across the water inbound to Kubiliti.

In other news, I also just made my first successful night landing! Funny that after all these years of playing, I don't think I ever tried to do a landing like that before. That was scary but very fun.

I think this topic is really going to be in the eye of the beholder. For me, a night flying novice, I found everything exciting and challenging. For someone that is used to a higher graphics fidelity in nighttime situations, maybe they wouldn't.

I'll try the same the mission with my 34" monitor and TrackIR and have a look at the differences.

Okay, just flew the same mission with my monitor (34" Asus PG3480) and TrackIR, and honestly, i think the sky looked darker and more black in VR then it did in 2D mode. Landing was certainly easier in VR!

I would have to conclude that everything in the RIft-S looked better at night when compared to my monitor display. Interesting, I wasn't really expecting that.

I agree that in my opinion the 'S' is better than CV1 at night by a big margin.

Hi,I want to thank you for starting this thread too, I´m also in love with my Rift S but I never liked the night flight, the sky is smoky, foggy (I don't know how to express (say) this in English).

I've tested with the kegetys sRGB fix, setting gamma higher or lower and nothing fixed, only thanks to this thread I saw that it's NOT only in DCS and also in P3D and XP-11.The same foggy, not clear outside view at night, so I think is something related to Rift S.

My question is the same, does anyone figure out how to improve or fix this?

Thanks!
