Wikkus Posted June 23, 2019 Posted June 23, 2019 Hey folks, Struggling to get the AI to do what (I think) should be some very basic stuff. I've spent the last umpteen hours trying different configurations of aircraft, waypoints, loadouts and so on. In short, what I'm trying to achieve is to bomb a cluster of eight ammunition bunkers. AI pilot skill set to Excellent. I've given up on low level strikes as the AI seems utterly incapable of doing NoE and even when I get them to stay reasonably low and come in from behind terrain, they always pop up to 5k+ feet and get shot by AAA, and/or they goof around trying to get their approach "right" and get shot by AAA. Doesn't seem to matter if I set "attack from direction" or not, they mess about. And forget using retarded munitions and lay-down attacks. So, I've instead switched to a high (25k ft) and level attack, the most effective so far being either carpet-bombing the bejesus with Mk84s from a B-52H, or more promisingly, using JDAMs from a B-1B. I even managed to get the B-1B to strike the first four bunkers (and all eight are neatly organised in a 2x4 row), but the second four all fall way too long. Any ideas how to fix this? Habu_69 Posted June 23, 2019 Posted June 23, 2019 1. AI are barely qualified to perform any type of AG attack and are most incompetent at unguided bombing. They need lots of help. Exception seems to be WWII carpet bombing, at which AI does reasonably well. 2. Give AI plenty of notice to begin their bomb run. Set the IP: "Bombing" Advance Waypoint action 15 to 20 miles from the target to minimize their inevitable "mucking about". 3. Order them to "Attack and Rejoin" 4. Restrict AI AG loadouts to only the weapon you want them to use. 5. Be ready to do most of the heavy lifting yourself.
Exorcet Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 Hard to see exactly what's wrong without the mission file, but you can cheat with triggers. Have the B-1 attack only one bunker. If it gets destroys, have a trigger detect that and then destroy the other bunkers. Habu_69 Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 DCS AI behavior deficiencies frequently require work-arounds I find. Made a WWII mission requiring P-51 to attack AAA. 20 direct hits with 20mm and the AAA was still firing. Finally resorted to destroying the AAA when hit.
