flyco Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 In one of my missions, I have been dropping both GBU38 JDAM and the JSOW, against Tunguska perched on the side of hills. The only feasible approach path is across the lines of hills. All the weapons seem to trade height for speed early on and as a result make their final approach to the target at a fairly shallow angle. Because of this it is very common for one of the intervening ridges to ‘take out’ the weapons short of the target. This can be overcome to a degree by making a very late release, which to a large extent invalidates the standoff advantage of using the JSOW. Anyone any suggestions or comments?
Harlikwin Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 You can set the impact angle on the JDAM to be nearly vertical. 90 deg New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, HP Reverb (formermly CV1) Old-N-busted: i7 4720HQ ~3.5GHZ, +32GB DDR3 + Nvidia GTX980m (4GB VRAM) :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, Rift CV1 (yes really).
Py Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 For now I think the only solution is either a close range release, or try to loft them slightly. Later on we will get the functionality to set an impact angle and/or direction which is the better solution.
SirJ Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 will the impact angle change the flight profile (without the terminal approach of cause)?
flyco Posted June 25, 2019 Author Posted June 25, 2019 I have been releasing them late, less than 6 miles. However, I am concerned at what I suspect is the 'minimum range' circle. However, I haven't had any overshoots yet.
