All,

I am starting to look at upgrading my GPU. Most likely will settle for the RTX 2080 Super. My only real question is how much VRAM is needed. I have a 1440 P flat panel so I think the 8 GB would be fine for that. I also do VR. Currently I have the Rift CV1 but most likely will up grade to one of the more recent headsets, HOP Reverb or VALVE Index.

With VR improving, and the resolution increasing, how much VRAM is needed? Will 8 GB be sufficient. I know more is better, but the cost of the Tis Is $400+ more.

From what I have read, if you exceed the VRAM then you will either get stutters or a massive hit in frame rate. Also understand such things as AA, PD can really increase the memory need.

Is there any good information on how much VRAM DCS takes for 1) 1440, and 2 (most important) VR?

Thanks!

Bump. Still hoping to get some information.

No good guide on VRAM requirements for VR, but most people are having good luck with 8GB cards with index/Rift S/Odyssey. I ran my Odyssey just fine with a 1070.

I would say, the VRAM question is obsolete, as it always comes fixed with the graphics card.

Choosing the graphics card only depends on your budget to spend. The best performing graphics card is barely good enough for VR.

... I´ve tested the Radeon7 for a week, which got the HBM VRAM, which promises much more faster than the double data rate RAM, but the GPU on the Radeon7 was less performing than the RTX 2080Ti, so there was finally no benefit of the high bandwith memory of the Radeon7 in DCS.

The Radeon7 with HBM VRAM might be more preferable over the RTX 2080Ti with DDR VRAM when it comes for Video editing or other use cases than DCS World.
