FalcoGer Posted July 24, 2019 Posted July 24, 2019 I loaded up 154x 20mm 'Hydra' rockets and put a bunch of trucks (ural) in a line on the kobuletti air strip. I had a pretty good lineup and unloaded my rockets at about 1.5nmi. out of 30 or so trucks that I pumelled, 7 or so died. it seems like you need a direct hit for anything to happen and the rockets go all over the place. When I came in with guns, a single bullet from the gun would kill a truck, even an undamaged one. How can it be that 20 rockets can't kill a truck if not hit direcly, but a single bullet can?
Harker Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 This is an issue with how DCS models fragmentation effects. The damage falloff is much, much greater in DCS than IRL and it depends on the warhead mass. Consider that a Mk-82 is ineffective in DCS if it lands 5 meters away from the target and it's a 500lbs bomb. Rockets have very small warheads, so their effect is calculated to be almost localized to the point of impact. Another forum user once suggested that damage was dealt only within the radius of the bomb crater, but I haven't checked that. The vCVW-17 is looking for Hornet and Tomcat pilots and RIOs.
