TheMoose Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 Hi gents, First, huge thanks for your contribution on a amazing sim. My question is, will BS be fully compatible with Vista? I mean, thoroughly tested with the vista OS? I know, some may argue that all the issues are driver related. But is there a commitment to attempt to make sure that it’s fully functional under that OS? I know, still not DX10. But vista is backward compatible DX wise. I do not have issues with other games or sim on vista so far, only lockon is the one being the greater challenge. The reason why I’m asking. On my rig, it’s obvious that FC has issues with Vista, especially in the sound department, among other thing. I still have too many issues that prevent me to enjoy FC under vista. Yes it will run, but at the cost of loosing sound quality, other bug that I have is my stick *.ini file is not loading as it should be expected under Xp, not sure why. (yes still using a sidewinder pro, and using inside game config) I want to replace the initial setup that I’m used to that comes with the config made by ED for the 1.02 version. For FC, under xp, easy fix, rename the old sidewinder profile to the present active *.ini file. That brings back the key bindings that I’m used too. But for some odd reason, that does not work under Vista. I would appreciate any help in that department if anyone has any clues on a fix for this. Thanks again, keep up the good work. The_GOZR Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 It is completely with Windows server 2003 and run better and way more stable than my XP..
britgliderpilot Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Some of the beta team have Vista. I'm not moving to Vista quite yet, and I wouldn't advise anyone else to either. But there are people who have tried BS on Vista, yes. I think some of them have it functioning well, so at least there'll be some form of support at release :) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
TheMoose Posted September 26, 2007 Author Posted September 26, 2007 If you have any driver issues, I suggest using driveragent.com to update your drivers. Only problem Ive ever had with Vista and LOFC is sound...and the latest driver batch from realtek solved it. And IIRC, some of the beta testers have Vista, so its a good possibility. Realtek, humm, possible fix for this dilemma, since it does come on my MB, but in true form, already tested it (with other games like bf2, 2142). The X-Fi has better sound quality IMO. But thanks for the heads up. I might give it a try with FC. Then again that isn’t my real concern. The stick configuration is one pain that I do not wish not to re assign all manually. Any Ideas on how come I cannot replace the *.ini file? I can replace it, but the assign key seems not take effect (compared to Xp)… If I can get that issue working, then I would be a happy camper…. And no, I cannot revert this system back to Xp yet. I'm keeping the Xp key for a 2nd system that I'm working on. TheMoose Posted September 26, 2007 Author Posted September 26, 2007 ... what .ini file are you referring about? sidewinderprecision.ini file in the input folder.:joystick: I'll try to re install it tonight, will see If can make it work. In the end, if not working, will have to reconfig manualy. I'll continue posting my findings later on tonight. I notice a second error, will report both of them to Microsoft, hopefully..., but not getting my hopes up with microsoft. TheMoose Posted September 26, 2007 Author Posted September 26, 2007 loaded newest JAVA? TheMoose Posted September 26, 2007 Author Posted September 26, 2007 Ok, FC works, although had to waste a activation since the save key utility did not do its job. Engines sound are very loud in game, I can live with that, will try and tweak it as such. But now every time I exit the applications, it hangs. I notice that FSX disables the aero before it’s launches, might just do fix the issue with lockon as well. Keeping my fingers crossed... TheMoose Posted September 26, 2007 Author Posted September 26, 2007 Ok, Aero desktop feature of transparency seems to be the major culprit here. It hangs less, but still hangs if I enter the game, not fly then if I click on exit, it will hang. But If I fly then exit, it closes normally. I can't wait for the service pack to get out. Hoping it will fix lots of these issues. Thanks gents for your assistance. I'm out, time to get some flying done. TheMoose Posted September 27, 2007 Author Posted September 27, 2007 Vista, what a freaking pain... I could not save any modification made to any *.cfg or *.lua files until I tried to disable UAC security feature to see if that worked and it did, and yes my account shows that I have admin privileges from the get go, what’s the point of saying you are admin if MS you don’t allow any modification without providing the valid source reason? LOL. It even never asked me if I wanted to modify the file as admin privileges. Just replied you cannot save the file, either it does not exist… something within those lines. Anyhow disabling UAC fixed the issue, and no more nagging screen when running apps and stuff. Enough nagging about vista, hehe ;) Here’s a link on how to disable the UAC (yep I know disabling such a feature , is putting your system at risk and all the yadi yada yada from Microsoft.) http://www.petri.co.il/disable_uac_in_windows_vista.htm Cheers Antec 900 gaming tower, PSU: Corsair 750W, Q6600, Asus P5K, 8Gig Mushkin, Nvidia eVGA 280 GTX Superclocked 1G DDR3, SSDNOW200 Kingston Drive, TrackIr 3000+Vector, Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick, Saitek rudder pedals pro, Sharp 42" inch LCD Aquo. TheMoose Posted September 27, 2007 Author Posted September 27, 2007 Thanks for the post =RvE=--AS, interesting stuff. But I was already aware that xp yields better FPS rates so far, 2 reason why at this present time I’m on vista, 1 DX10 games like Crysis that is coming out and FSX. 2 my xp version will be used on my 2nd computer (old pc) that’s on hold until I get my BFG6800GT back from BFG since life time warranty, I fried it, lol. After Xp will be re installed on that PC. Personally from experience so far Vista isn’t up to par to what all the hoopla Microsoft made it to be. Xp remains the better choice as a gamming OS so far, at present time. But I admit that with my specs the significance of the FPS drop is really marginal, almost not apparent, basically I can live with it so for, asking me the same question 6 month from now, I most will likely change my mind, lol. Anyhow interesting article.
