jasonbirder Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 The UFC gives me the option of setting 3 altitude alerts - 1 above Ground and a floor and ceiling in relation to Sea Level. What would they typically be used for/set to? Manual simply refers to them - how they can be input via the UFC/HUD...but not what they're intended to be used for or what typical operating values might be set at! Cheers (Apologies...whilst i've had the A10C for A LONG time...I'm just getting to grips with it...via the Maple Flag BFQ/AFQ/TFT campaigns) so I suspect there'll be more questions along )
Ramsay Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 The UFC gives me the option of setting 3 altitude alerts - 1 above Ground and a floor and ceiling in relation to Sea Level. What would they typically be used for/set to? AFAIK the values depend on the type of mission, threats present, operational requirements i.e. vertical separation between air corridors, etc. Low Level Example So perhaps for a low level training flight in peace time Ground might be 250 ft AGL, with an alert set at 300 ft and a planned flight at 350 ft AGL. Above 2000 ft enters controlled airspace, so ceiling is set to 1,900 ft. If flown correctly, no alerts sound. Ingress/Egress to AO To de-conflict ingress and egress air corridors they'd be at different altitudes i.e. ingress 15,000-18,000 ft / egress 22,000-25,000 ft Similarly to assign different altitudes to separate CAP, CAS, helicopters, drones, etc. Threats To avoid manpad, small arms and AAA threat a 12,000 ft floor might be assigned. This is an example kill box with floor and ceiling. i9 9900K @4.8GHz, 64GB DDR4, RTX4070 12GB, 1+2TB NVMe, 6+4TB HD, 4+1TB SSD, Winwing Orion 2 F-15EX Throttle + F-16EX Stick, TPR Pedals, TIR5, Win 11 Pro x64, Odyssey G93SC 5120X1440
