So starting out in missiles with Jester, and I'm having some issues getting Jester to find and lock targets.

Right now I'm more or less just pointing the plane where the bogeys are on the F10 map and telling him to set the radar scan range to a bit further than I think they are at, then either scan high or scan low, or elevation auto, but I don't seem to be actually seeing anything on the radar. I've got the HSD set to TID mode, so I believe I'm seeing what the RIO is seeing on the radar scope. I've also checked that the radar is on.

Generally I keep vector img to the targets based on the F10 map, but I'm not seeing to be able to get Jester to find and lock onto them. We've been ending up going to visual range, then I'll use one of the pilot lock modes to get a STT lock on them.

So what should the BVR search workflow look like?

I'm fairly new as well (especially to DCS and even more so to BVR) so take these pointers with a grain of salt:

1. Bellow 25NM don't even bother searching or trying to keep them in the radar cone or on the TID repeater;

2. I usually scan at 100NM and only sometimes retreat to 50NM.

3. Use the data link whenever possible. Your SA depends on in.

4. Stabilize the radar TID to get a good 360 view of the battle space

5. Radar elevation commands are currently clumsy AND we don't have a TWS auto function working. So try to remain roughly co-altitude with what ever it is that you are trying to inspect/intercept/engage.

6. Once bogie-bandit breaks 20NM (and you haven't STT it already) immediately switch to PAL mode. This will scan and automatically lock on every target withing 15NM in a 20 degree azimuth and in (IIRC) 8 bar scan.

Hope this helps. Try it out and give feedback.

It's +-20 degrees from the nose so 40 degrees search scan.
