CptTangerine Posted September 23, 2019 Posted September 23, 2019 Hi I have somehow managed to cut through my Warthog stick cable. I have just bought the Monstertech desk mount and I think I must have somehow caught it in a sharp bit of that. Does anyone know where I could get a replacement cable? I am planning to solder the wires back together, but I'm not super-confident about my soldering skills. I'd like a back-up. Cheers! Gierasimov Posted September 23, 2019 Posted September 23, 2019 You can always ask Thrustmaster support, maybe they can offer a spare USB cable... I am sure there are magicians on this forum who can help you fix it DIY style... CptTangerine Posted September 23, 2019 Author Posted September 23, 2019 Yeah. I'll give that a go. Like I say, I can probably solder it, I'm just planning for worst case scenario. Thanks. oskich Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 Isn't that just a standard USB cable, that you can buy at any DIY/ hardware store? Probably even easier to "cannibalize" some old keyboard/printer cable... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
CptTangerine Posted September 24, 2019 Author Posted September 24, 2019 I was actually eyeing up four conductor shielded USB cable on eBay last night. Looks pretty cheap. As you say, no reason to think that it should be anything special. Sokol1_br Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 If you get a USB cable for printer, they have better quality, with that ferrite "filter", cut off the B connector and solder the 4 wires + Gnd shield in original positions. Since the cable don't have that molded part for fit in joy case, just put a zip-tie around in the internal part, this prevent pull the cable.
CptTangerine Posted September 24, 2019 Author Posted September 24, 2019 Hi Thanks. I'll see how soldering the original goes. I was watching Jabbers taking his Warthog apart today and trying to see how the wires connect to the little circuit board inside. I couldn't really see but I am assuming that they are just soldered on. Looks like I'll be soldering one way or another. Sokol1_br Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 Wires (Power, Data-, Data+, Gnd) are welded, and shield mesh cable have a tab for bolt, see in this picture: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/~4cAAOSwufFcbHKp/s-l1600.jpg
CptTangerine Posted September 24, 2019 Author Posted September 24, 2019 Hi Thanks for that. I have soldered the cable (badly) and, although it isn't pretty, it works. I'll just have to see how well it holds. I have ordered a new cable, just in case. When you say that the four wires are welded, do you mean soldered, or is there another process? What I'm wondering is, would it possible to attach these at home? Cheers!
