I just finished a new build. My problem is I want to have a sata ssd drive for internal storage, but doesn't show, even in disk management. There my C drive & CD-ROM as present, but not the storage drive. I did a chat with MB tech, thought maybe something in the bios, but no help. I don't think the sata ports have any problem, because the CD-ROM shows. Can anyone think of what else it could be? TIA

Make a screenshot from your Sata Bios page. Rather make a few more than one too few. So we can hopefully see the misconfigured part.

IIRC the Z270 series Bios allows to make screenshots to a USB drive or even internal drive.

Does the drive work in another PC or ext. USB adapter ?

What drive model is it precisely ?

List all your drives with make and model

Make a screenshot of your Win-Disk Management page in fullscreen with BOTH parts, upper + lower, fully visible.

Thank you for taking a look. I had to trim them so they get below 2mb.

Which M2 socket did you use for your 970 EVO Plus?

The one above the video card should be the primary slot, it will disable sata port 1 if set to SATA mode but won't disable anything if in PCI-E mode,

if you used the slot closer to the front of the case, it will disable sata ports 5 and 6 to operate in PCI-E mode. If you used the bottom slot, just make sure the SSD you're trying to add is in port 1-4 and bare in mind that using this slot, two of your sata ports become disabled. If you can't tell which ports are what, there should be a diagram in the user manual, which you can download from Asus support.

Yeah, Headwarp might have hit the nail right on ! That would explain the issue pretty much.

Make sure your NVMe is NOT in the wrong 2nd slot while your 850 SSD is in Sata port 5 or 6.

Read the manual which is which, on my Asus board the LOWER one is NVME Slot #1 that also has a cooling plate from the PCH. The one above the PCIe ( GPU Slot ) is my secondary NVMe without an included cooler.

This is likely your issue.

Well it looks like I chose the wrong socket. I did this cus I read in the manual socket 1 was for both NVMe & sata, & 2 was just NVMe. I didn't see anything about sata ports being disabled. That's what I get for reading the manual. I should have thought myself that could be the problem, but things get by a going on 76 years old gamer. :noexpression: Anyhow all is well, thanks for catching that, & the help from you both.

Stuff like that happens, regardless of ones age.
