imacken Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 Hmm, see what you mean. I wonder if it will be implemented later. GrEaSeLiTeNiN Posted October 17, 2019 Author Posted October 17, 2019 Hmm, see what you mean. I wonder if it will be implemented later. Not sure how close to RL is modeled in sim but it’s currently for TGP zoom and in Wags Hotas video I think he said it was for radar range. I guess we will know later. Good read anyway given the lack of info at this EA stage. imacken Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 Yep, I use it for TGP zoom. Different control for radar range. sniperpr1 Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 I believe that pilots actually use the cursor bump in the top or bottom of the mfd to change the range since it's more intuitive in the heat of battle. I think the knob is mainly used for other functions.
GrEaSeLiTeNiN Posted October 18, 2019 Author Posted October 18, 2019 Yep. Strange the F-18 did not have the bump radar range function although the cursor could click next to the MFD radar range arrows. mvsgas Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 That website does not properly describe the USAF F-16C block 50 MAN RNG/UNCAGE HOTAS. Not sure what version of the Operational Flight Program (OFP, for aircraft with an MMC) or System Capabilities Upgrade (SCU, for aircraft with General Avionics Computer or GAC) may use that versions. From OFP 3.4 to 5.1, it should be like this, but I do not know to which specific version or if it is the same for SCU. Also, I do not know if it relates to DCS version, this may not have any relevance. Use of the MAN RNG/UNCAGE control is mode dependent and serves several purposes. MAN RNG/UNCAGE is actually a combination of two separate control types. The UNCAGE switch is activated by depressing and releasing the MAN RNG knob. - The MAN RNG control has no effect on the EEGS funnel. - Depressing the UNCAGE switch uncages the selected AIM-9 seeker head. Once the selected AIM-9L/M or AIM-9X has been commanded, indications of missile seeker LOS and radar LOS correlation are generated in the HUD. During BORE or no lock launch conditions of the AIM-120, the UNCAGE switch and WPN REL button are depressed at the same time in order to fire the selected missile. - The control is also used in air-to-ground, ground map modes to vary the radar gain. Rotating the knob clockwise increases the radar gain. The gain effect of the knob is to add or subtract from the base value set by the gain rocker switch on the MFD. In GMT and DBS modes, moving the knob adds or subtracts from the base map gain value set by the rocker switch on the MFD. In GMT, this knob controls gain of moving target radar returns. - The UNCAGE switch is used to cage/uncage missiles, remove the AGM-65 dome cover, and provide AGM-65 weapon video. The UNCAGE switch is depressed to provide AGM-65 video before the NOT TIMED OUT message is blanked. - If an AGM-88 is selected and a threat has been handed off, within the first 5 seconds of hand-off, UNCAGE will step the target isolate option independent of the current SOI. - With Sniper as the SOI, pressing of the MAN RNG/UNCAGE switch will enter Laser Spot Track (LST) mode. LST can be exited the same way. - Depressing and releasing (D&R) the CAGE/UNCAGE switch twice within one second with an AIM-9X selected will enter Helmetless High Off-Boresight (HHOBS). The sequence must begin with the AIM-9X UNCAGED, then CAGE/UNCAGE within 1 second). - Depresses and releases the CAGE/UNCAGE switch a single time will exit HHOBS. It may also be exited by cycling the MASTER ARM switch to OFF, stepping the missile station, or selecting another missile type. - Magnification (FLIR and TV) can be varied by rotating the MAN RNG/UNCAGE knob on the throttle. Note that changes in the knob position are sent to the pod only when SOI is on the TGP. Rotating the knob with SOI elsewhere has no effect on the pod’s variable zoom. However, when SOI is placed back on the TGP, the current knob position is sent to the pod and the variable zoom value is updated accordingly. To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Thank you for you patience. Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..
