Steinsch Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 Hi, It seems to me that SA-9 units do not track or engage me when I fly close to them (less than a mile) at low altitude (less than 3000 feet). This happens with or without ROE and Alarm state, and Skill set to excellent. I've tried flying the Mirage and the Huey, with the same result. And yes, the SAM group and I are not on the same side. I can also ram the SA-9 vehicle in the Huey and no collision would happen. The turret would just enter my cockpit. Doing this repeatedly starts a fire in the vehicle and it gets destroyed without my Huey taking any damage. This doesn't happen if I replace the SA-9 by a SA-13 (this one definitely tries to kill me as soon as enter the WEZ). I repaired my Open Beta installation. To no avail. Has anyone faced the same problem? Steinsch Flying Virtual F-15s since 1989 YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/c/CommanderSteinsch
Steinsch Posted November 8, 2019 Author Posted November 8, 2019 https://youtu.be/SRt4ZykBPWQ You can see on the video what the problem is: - The SA-9s don't track me. - They don't fire even when I'm in range - They are only made of textures. As a famous president would say: "No collision!" - The SA-13s are doing their job under the exact same conditions. ED Team BIGNEWY Posted November 8, 2019 ED Team Posted November 8, 2019 Hi SA-9 Only have missiles and you are inside the minimum launch range. Try extending out away from the SA-9 they will engage you. Thanks Forum rules - DCS Crashing? Fri13 Posted November 8, 2019 Posted November 8, 2019 The AI should keep tracking the target, as there is no way that it will know when to engage or not by not tracking the target. The gunner should be ready to launch as soon as he even thinks that target is at the optimal range. Many gives a effective range to be 1000 meters, but regardless that the gunner would keep target aimed. But what is the actual missile fuze activation time is another question as typically those ranges are given on target at 250m/s that are hot and cold, so a helicopter flying at that range should be possible to be engaged, as commonly those fuze times has been about 150-200 meters, but missile doesn't have time to turn if shot at too close range at fast target, why 1000 meters is about such. i7-8700k, 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 2x 2080S SLI 8GB, Oculus Rift S. i7-8700k, 16GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB, 27" 4K, 65" HDR 4K.
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted November 8, 2019 ED Team Posted November 8, 2019 In my test I was in the UH-1H, started close, then extended out to about 400m and was engaged. Attach a short track replay I am happy to take another look. Forum rules - DCS Crashing? Steinsch Posted November 8, 2019 Author Posted November 8, 2019 Thanks for the pointers. I finally managed to be engaged. As Fri13 mentioned, it seems 1,000 meters is one of the triggers: https://youtu.be/62w3k4BEvrs Still, it doesn't explain why only one vehicle was tracking me. The other 5 were doing nothing. Is it normal behavior (economy of force?) And I still can't collide with the SA-9s. That's clearly a bug. ED Team BIGNEWY Posted November 8, 2019 ED Team Posted November 8, 2019 Hi, If the units are all in the same group they will conserve ammo. If you add the units as single units they will engage independently. Forum rules - DCS Crashing? Steinsch Posted November 8, 2019 Author Posted November 8, 2019 OK thanks, conserving ammo makes sense if there is only one target. But I believe other units should still track the target and not remain on stand by. Once the lead vehicle is out of missile, the next launcher should be able to reengage faster.
