I know ED has been talking about improving missiles but how exactly? Are they planning to lower the drag coefficients? (which desperately needs to be done. For instance, today an F-18 shot an AIM-120 at me from literally five miles away at 30000ft and I was able to outright kinetically defeat it in my F-14. That was total BS, I should have been nailed.) Are they going to improve missile lofting so that they can take advantage of the low drag environment of higher altitudes? Although as seen today, it is still like pea soup up there! Get with it guys!

Look at the AIM-7 before and after ED changed it with CFD and auto pilot(and moving surfaces!) when the F-18 came out. Including the recent thing with F-14 recently switching to the new model and how much more effective it is. Chizh has said same will be done with R-27 and some people say AIM-120 is also planned.

Not to mention the improved ARH API that ED has already given Heatblur so we have a Phoenix with realistic custom seeker behavior

I think apart from some new little improvements like CFD simulation on R27s and maybe, an improved lofting trajectory for AIM120 some time in the future, ED is actually quite confident that missiles are in a good spot. I know the general consensus is that they'are short ranged, however I think that ED is a strong believer that the ranges we see are closer to RL than those the general public think they should be doing.

For sure there are a lot of controversy coming from some missiles charts and the definition that western and eastern countries make of maximum ranges. A misinterpretation on this figures alone would make for substantial changes. But as I say, I really don't think we will ever see regular 20mn aim120 kills in DCS like we see in other simulators, apart from some minor enhacements. This is of course my perception from seeing ED pov through comments made by developers or moderators, not saying is the right approach, but its the one they think is the good one, so it is understandable and legitimate.
